Thanks guys,

It sure was an awesome fishing day even though at the beginning everything was coming out wrong. Launching was easy my first time
and I said first time because after John,Etienne and I went in Carl was having trouble getting in so I got out of the water to help him
then after he went in I was having trouble getting in, I flipped over two times going in, I lost my back up fishing pole on the surf.
We paddled north, way, way after the caves by the kelp beds. And on my first drop my only fishing pole was not working :smt013
the reel locked on me :smt013 Carl saw me and he asked me to use his pole because he was going to get out. That was nice but at the same time it sucked because the whole purpose of the trip was to fish together. He was happy any ways, I gave him some fish too,
and got to know how beautiful and dangerous LK could be.

I was really surprised with the time I spent in the water, I did not realize until I saw my watch and was 1:30pm. When you are having fun time goes fast....and after all, that suffering was
paid off with good fish. :smt007

Overall, LK is definitely not for newbies or out of shape kayaker.Yesterday was a great fishing day, I got the workout of a whole week, my body is aching and my mind is already thinking on the next trip :smt001

I was hoping to see the whole crew. What happened ?

where is this place?

about an hour plus south of Monterey.  Definitely a place to respect both for its fishing and gut check launches and landing as mentioned above.  The shore dump is SO powerful, it remind you how freakin small you are!  Word to the wise, tie down everything and protect moving parts from sand.
I flipped over two times going in, I lost my back up fishing pole on the surf.

Ramon, I lost more tackle floundering in the surf zone there on the one trip than I have lost in all my previous dumps elsewhere.  I found my bungee net method of on deck storage can survive a simple roll over, but not the washing machine of the shore dump.  Actually went out and got a trident after that trip!  For futue trips maybe put the reels in a dry bag and set up on the water?

there must be a plot out there cuz my truck started acting up on friday, and scotts problem sounded similar to mine.  Maybe the fish gods fear us? :smt003

When Carl and I was trying to get in an other Kayaker on shorts, none sleve shirt and a cigarrete in his mouth went in
with no problem :smt102 I guess it is better just not to think about it and just go for it.

kayakito, I would not use him as a good example necessarily, unless you mean you want to be lucky like him!

I met him at the landing.

that dude landed clean right in the middle of the beach with a giant net and two rods sticking straight up. his cigarette was still lit,  :smt005. his kayak was about 10' long and had a very small hatch at the front, not room for much more than his wallet. he hung off the shore for a long time trying to figure out how to land and that's where I caught him. my stuff was all stowed, stringer of fish, tackle, fishfinder head, gaff, and two rods in my hatch just to ensure my landing would be clean, which it was. I had one verm out in the tankwell that would not fit in the hatch. In fact my hatch was so full I was almost a submarine. We landed together, me on the left, him in the center of the beach. he did seem to kiss the ground once he landed,  :smt044, could have been a little seasick, not sure, but was otherwise totally unfazed.

personally I think he was just lucky as I asked if he'd ever fished there and he said no. he also did not seem to have any fish.

But as my dad likes to say, "I'll take luck over skill anyday!"

Nicotine has some benefits with regard to cognitive ability and alertness. The problem is that it is addicting and the other stuff eventually kills you. Maybe if I put a nicotine patch on I won't wipe out again.  :smt044

as it was, the launch had a 50% success rate.

Those odds don't sound too bad considering what the forecast called for up and down the coast. Nice stringer of fish.....that red is a pig!
