How far is that from my launch?

I noticed that often on other sites- Coastside, etc,. folks will give lat/lon #s.  Occassionally I wonder how far that is from my nearest launch and where the heck it is in general.

You can find a lat/lon using search, then use the path tool to measure from launch to point!  at long last I know if those reports are REALLY within paddling distance.

Maptech.com has a good lat/long search too - and they've got navigational charts with depth, ect, in their maps too.

Problem is sometimes you don't know the first number - you're supposed to know from a name like 'buckets' or soemthing the general area where the minute numbers are located.

true enough-- that's one of the nice things about google earth-- you get the lat/lon lines on the map- so you know if they were off the light bucket out GG, you can hone in on the right #s by honing in on the map
