Fished Hmb for two hours this a.m.  Very poor visibility with 20-25 mph S wind.  Couldn't make it out to the Radar Tower. Fished around the kelp for 1 sm cab and 3 blacks.  Decided to head over to Pacifica and fish around Pedro Pt. hoping to get some shelter from the wind.   As soon as I got to the beach, tons of birds were crashing right in front of the beach.  By the time I got my kayak ready and paddled out.   The feeding frenzy had moved further out from shore.  Couldn't make it out past the point due the strong gust.  Wind had shifted to SW with a mix of sun and cloud.  So I guess Shelter Cove wasn't very sheltered either.  Trolled with a fish trap for 1 Med. size Brown and 2 jacksmelt on my sabiki rig close to the shore.  Landing was a little challenging with the wind and wave, hit a big boulder on the way in but everything was OK.  Though fishing wasn't great, I was good just to be on the water.  I was encourage to see more sign of life.  The water temp was at 60 degrees both at Hmb and Pacifica.  So may be a couple more weeks before Bean Hollow busts open.

Great report. More detail than over the phone! Where was the rock you hit; coming in or one of those between the beach and the point? I decide to go to work for a half day and fish over the weekend.

Way to go!  Let's hope the weather settles down this weekend.  I'm itching to play in the Big Blue.  HMB is always fun, since it's about 15-20mins from my place.

Eugene,

Good effort in the wind.  I wonder if the Pacifica feeding frenzy was due to a striper boil.

If you landed on the south side of the beach its easy to get blown into the rocks.  It's good to have a plastic boat that bounces off the rocks instead of having it crack open.

Wow, 60 instead of 52, its a matter of time now before BH opens up.

Good report with positive news.

Normally I would have hit Pedro a few times by now but all the old timers are getting goose eggs.  Water has been nice.  hopefully things will pick up soon.
