FYI - Salmon Junkies - Opportunities Are There

My buddy, Jeff the insurance adjuster, says "days like this make the trip to Eureka (from Redding) worth it!"  He bagged two kings around 8-10 pounds very quickly at Pigeon Point using tuna balls - NO ONE fishing due to the smoke, which caused 100 yards visibility, but the roads are open (for now).

If you're Jonesin' for a salmon...   

Good to see there's some salmon out of Cali still alive out there somewhere. Wishing for a good spawn and better conditions for them.

Pigeon Point - oh yeah, that may have confused some San Mateo people!   

It's a spot along the Trinity River on hiway 299.  It's about 2 hours from here on the coast, and probably 1.5 hours from Redding.

Isn't all salmon fishing closed? Is this an exception?

I can see why some think that salmon fishing is closed everywhere - that's how it's made to sound down there at times.  The truth is that rivers up here that have been open to fishing are still open to fishing, and the limits may even be higher this year because there's no ocean fishing. 

I believe thats only true for the Klamath system, other North Coast rivers may be closed.

I've been hearing good reports out of the Klamath as well. August is great there for fishing and camping on river bars. I'll be spending alot of time there running Kayak trips in August if anyone in interested in a guided excursion

I don't think the Smith is closed, and I don't think hatchery steelhead in the Mad are off limits.  Most all other rivers up here are catch and release only anyway.

I read that part of the Sac will be open to salmon fishing. But the other foothill rivers (American, Feather, SJ, Moke, etc) will be closed. Guess I should go look it up for myself.
