A couple weeks ago I looked into making a batch of Sangria. Never made it before, so I Googled for a recipe.
One thing I found out is that everyone has a different twist on how to make it.

My first batch was basic: one each sliced orange, lemon and lime. Clear Rum and Wild Vine Blackberry merlot. Let it all soak in together.
Added a little sugar, club soda or lemon/lime soda as needed. We had to make three batches over that weekend to decide that it was "just OK".

Last weekends batch had the same citrus, added some honeydew melon. Changed to Cap't Morgan Spiced Rum and Arbor Mist Blackberry Merlot. Also added a shot of Ginger Ale in each glass. My kids and I thought this batch was very tasty and it went well with late night Mario Kart Wii racing. We went though two pitchers. :smt003

Anyway....back to my topic. Do any of you have a favorite Sangria recipe???? If so, please share!!! :smt006

Cheers, Al

Never made it but sounds yummy. I expect to taste your sangria at Elk..LOL
Ever think of using a plum wine instead of merlot??
I peel an orange, cut it up into bite sized sections and pour plum wine over it. GREAT dessert after sushi. You might get a sweeter flavor using it.

Triple sec and plum wine..those might be the missing ingredients I've been looking for.

Thanks, Al

Whats up with the hard liquor? that aint sangria. this is: 750ml merlot, juice of 2 oranges, 1orange sliced, 1 lemon sliced, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup triple-sec. mix it all up and let sit in fridge for a minimum of 2 hours.

Got this one from a place called Jaleo in Was DC.  Haven't made it, but I drank a ton of it last time I was there.  Had to convert it because the original recipe called for 18 liters of red wine.  May not be considered a "true Sangria" due to ingredients, but it sure was tasty.

1 bottle red wine
.5 oz vodka
.5 oz brandy
1 oz port
2 oz orange juice
1/8 oz lime juice
2/3 oz sugar
1 cinnamon stick
Diced apples to taste (or whatever fruit ya want)
Sprite - added just as you serve - to taste

The "6 bottle" recipe is the one I'll probably do & freeze the "batter" in portions that I would just add a bottle of red.  This would be:

3 oz vodka
3 oz brandy
6 oz port
12 oz orange juice
3/4 oz lime juice
4 oz sugar
1 cinnamon stick
diced apples as needed (or whatever fruit ya want)
Sprite added as you serve
