Sorry for the late post. I have been taking off work in the am to chase wsb and then working the rest of the day to catch up. I launched off of the Capitola pier on wed 06/25 early. The rumor was there were some wsb being caught close to the pier. I paddled less than five min to find piles of chovies. I dropped a jig rod down and put about 6 in the live bait tank. The little voice in my head said to stick on a chovie on a rod and drop it down while getting the rest of the bait for the day. So I listened to the voice after 45 years and  I stuck a chovie on my seeker classi series rod, vintage 1985 (I almost did not bring this rod as I had farmed the last four good fish on it) Went back to the jig rod and noticed the seeker rod getting slammed full speed-line peeling off the reel, rod bouncing the boat. No need to set the hook, just started reeling. Several good runs one minor encounter with getting into the kelp then up to the side of the boat. I wasn't sure if it was legal so I grabbed it just in front of the tail (I learned this working on a salmon party boat when cleaning fish) and put it in the boat. Luckily it measured 28.5", 8.5 lbs. I spent another few hours for two other smashed baits until I had to get back to work. I saw a pb hook and release several short wsb same day. The same boat hooked four shorties on Thursday. As many of you know I am not allowed to have a camera on the boat so I had my daughter ride her bike down to the pier to take these photos. More adventures to follow.

Great job, Ken!  Not allowed to carry a camera?!  I'll pledge ten bucks toward your own personal Olympus or Pentax - time to turn it up a notch, Bro.   Excellent assist from daughter - that's quality family support right there.  :smt001

I am so jealous, and glad for you! Excellent job. In my opinion there's nothing better than jigging up your own bait and then hooking a nice keeper on it.
Thanks for posting your exploits.

The wife said I have to put the camera on the birthday list because I have been taking too much time off to go fishing and not working. So I have to wait until October. There have been too many times I am out there wishing I had that camera. The orca last week, a pilot whale in the kelp Friday, the Humpback and calf from February. Oh well those are all stuck in my brain and keep me  :smt001
