AUGUST 17 MBK DERBY...SAVE THE DATE!!!

Just realized I have not announced the 2d Annual MBK Kayak Fishing Derby.  It is scheduled for August 17, and signups will begin in July. 

So, save the date.  Last year we had 70  or so anglers participate, like to see even more this year.  Proceeds beyond cost will go to the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project again, and the event is sponsored by, (of course) Monterey Bay Kayaks and Ocean Kayaks (so far).  Great prizes, BBQ eats, bonhomie and potentially stiff competition.

I'll dig up the pics from last year and post on this thread.

I'll be employing a different tactic this year: Halibut or nothing! Last year, I abandoned the halibut idea after about an hour and concentrated on rockfish. I had a double-hookup of twin 23.5 inch lings and thought I had a monster fish. But was really bummed to see 2 skinny lings come up. I believe there was only 1 legal 'but caught last year, and it was the winner. Still haven't seen a pic of the winning fish though.

I'll get that pic up.  Most ironic was the fact this fellow paddled right top the edge of the noorings, about as close to MBK as you could possibly be, to hook up the winning entry, about 14 lbs if I remember correctly.

funny story, how unusual, a double ling hookup.  At least for us mortal fisherman, Patrick.
