Anybody launch and fish off of Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands?  Searched the site and found a few references to the site but no actual fishing reports that I could locate.
Thanks for any intel - Bird

Bird:

I used to surf at Rodeo Beach (Fort Cronkhite) more than a few times a week years ago.  I still go back there from time to time, but not as often as I used to.   I was there today.

I have only seen two SIS Kayaks launch from the beach. This was sometime last year. One was successfull and made it past breakers and one was not.  The one that wasn't became seperated from his boat and was quickly forced back near the shore.  The waves were  big that day.

Private Boaters stop in an fish for halibut off the sandy bottom.  I assume they are there, but have never seen anyone land one.

I think launching could be do-able on the south end of the beach with little or no swell around, but I am not sure how  the fishing would be.

Thanks for the reply Jason. I've been doing some work in the Headlands on-n-off for many years and have been thinking about that launch.  I agree that in low swell/surf conditions the south end of the beach looks like a good bet. Appears very calm when conditions are right. Was thinking there might be halibut off the beach and rockfish around the rocks to the south.  Also would have a quick return paddle to the beach if conditions change. Might be worth a try!

i've fished with a lot of success from a boat about 1/4 mile off rodeo-- loads of fat hallies about this time of year, and nice stripers earlier. Never tried it in a yak
