Got a late start and ended up launching a little after 9 AM. Was fishing with my son Mike who isn't a morning person so we only fished just SE of the Pinnacles MLPA, around Pescadero Point. Pretty cool and breezy with 1-3ft swells. Fished just outside the kelp line for 2 hours and bagged 3 small rockies all released. Mike caught a gopher which he released. Headed in to cook the man dogs and fish tacos. Was good to fish with Mike again and hook up with Sackyak, Rocketman and Slowmo. Etienne had a good day with a nice ling and 5 rockies. Really fun Father's Day event.

What happened to sin coast? I thought sure he was going to break the 20lb ling on this trip, being a fist fathers day. I know everyone was well fed. Those man dogs sure hit the spot after being on the water.

While I may have gotten the best fish of the day, Scott was the grill master and gets big credit for organizing this little shin dig.  It was truly amazing to come from fishing trout in the Tetons at 6800 feet and two days later be fishing lings and rocking at sea level.  Gretat to fish with Steve and Walker again and also to meet the better (female) half of both of your families.  As for me I struggle just to keep my one third masculine share of the family going but my better two thirds also had a good time and enjoyed meeting the families of the guys I spend weekends with even if they did just show up for the food.

We met a few other kayak fishers on the beach I believe I got a photo of Phil ("who should be on this site") and his stringer wtih a legal ling and met Joe "Hermit" it think as well as two others one from LA (soory about that) and another from Oakland but I forgot your names, sorry.  Here are the photos.  Somehow the gray sky prevented me from on the water shots.  Joe PM me if you are up for an evening fish later this summer.

I kept a ling that was at least 26 inches.  These days, after I confirm that they are legal, I do not measure them more preciesly unless I think that they will be bigger than the one Sin Coast caught.  It had a huge healed wound on its back that deformed and offset its dorsal fin.  I also kept my biggest olive of the year and two big blues that went right into the tacos Scott fixed for us.  I alsoi caught and released the usual suspects of gophers, chinas and small blues.

Something to think about:  What would make a wound like that on a lingcod?  Seal, Shark, Bigger Lingcod?  What did the lingcod do to get away?  It must have been cool.  How long did it take the lingcod to heal after that?  I would be gland to hear what Brian has to say.

Thanks again for a great time Scott.

Nice report guys sorry I couldn't make it I ended up with some technical difficulties... :smt010, Were sure to hook up real soon... BTW, how did you end up with that spot and not piss off the locals? From what I understand that side of the pier is private property. I may be wrong I seem to be that every once in A while... Andy

Sounds (and looks!) like a great day of fishing and chillaxing on Father’s Day. Sorry I flaked; was planning to do a Man-Day of fishing in the AM and golfing in the PM….settled for just golfing (almost got my first ace BTW!). As much as I regret missing the event, I am also very pleased to see that everybody else had such a great time. It makes me happy to see other people having fun kayaking+fishing.
And Etienne has always been the ling master. Nothing new. I was only borrowing the title for a few weeks.
Thanks for the report+pics everybody!

i've caught a few fish with some big scars on them- but never a ling.  I'd bet its a seal.  Check out this Dodo from la paz we got last year.  had to be a shark.
