A short report - we fished, but no fish.

A longer report - kayakito, EricB, Adam & I met at BH this morning. Swells were big than expected/forecasted. So did the wind. Man, BH is not predictible.  :smt009. Swells were not small, but manageable. Kayakito and I decided to launch, while ericB and Adam backed off.

The launch was smooth. However, the wind came up early and strong, much earlier than expected, :smt010 which made yaks like sailboats. Fishing was difficult with this type of conditions, and bites were off. We were on water for 2+ hours and barely feel bites. Wind were howling from ~8AM. We called off the day around 9AM. Paddling back was challenge. Landing was dicey, but both of them managed dry landing. My arms are sore now.

It was not a good day for fishing at BH. Good luck to you tomorrow if you go. The wind is a wild card. Watch out!

Everyone be careful out there. This week I've read a Coastsider's report of a near-accident while ab diving as well as another from today from a guy who got hammered on the bay.

I'm waiting for some truly flat conditions.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Safety tip - With thick foggy and windy conditions, GPS became life saver. It tells how fast you drift, how far from launch. Eyes can not tell where shores are. W/o GPS, you are "blind". Radio is to keep buddies connected. No radio and no GPS = no go (or not recommended). It is worth to invest on gadgets for our fishing madness.

thanks for the report. BH always looks spooky when its foggy out to me.

i agree that gps is the way to go with fog. nothing will take the place of that if you are blinded by fog.

did you see any dolphins out?

John - No dolphins out there. It was spooky. Usually I see a lot of seals or sea lions checking out us. Today I only saw one or two for a short period of time.

Where have you been these days? diving often?

It was a strange day...  foggy despite the promising forecast, swell from both directions hitting the cove...  I couldn't find my VHF til the last minute, then I saw a coyote at the 84 turnoff thru the creepy haze....

It was good to see you guys again, (Adam, Eric, and Ramon), but I know it would be too rough for my tastes.  I did fish for awhile around the rocks and from the beach for surf perch, rockies, anything...  but there was no action happening.

Damned FogDrivenWind!! I knew it was gonna be rough down there, as I saw the SURF breaking headhigh in areas along the 45min. shoreline drive. While looking and hoping that the Bean would be "DOABLE"....it was NOT!
Eric and Ramon followed through and hit it....you guys are MADD!! :smt002
it was windy and building at 7am. and I could not bring myself to launch in those begining conditions.....I have swallowed *GALLONS of Pride" in the past and will continue to do so in the future....so that I can make that call of TUCK-TAIL again!, without problem. :smt003
Here is few shots of the MaddMen eyeatbay and kayakito making thier run out to the bigwater.
