I'm new to this board and kayaking but I thought I would share a great experience I had yesterday at San Pablo Dam.  The trout were hitting fire tiger rapalas trolled from my Hobie Outfitter.  There were several power boats trolling but none were getting bit like me.  The hot spot was right along the dam.  Big fish with lots of fight on light tackle.  I'll be returning again soon.  This is a great place to learn Kayak fishing before adventuring into the ocean.  Thanks to those who posted tips and cautions for new yakers like myself.

Martin,

 :smt038 :smt038

Congrats!  I share your pride in making the PB's wish they had the madness.  Thanks for the post and I'm sure we'll see you on the ocean in due time.

If you're trying to figure out when it'll be a good time to head out for the deep blue, keep your eye on the weather/buoy reports.  Ideal conditions are 5 to 10 knot winds with swells 1 to 3 feet spaced 15 secs apart.  Keep in mind that the wind is usually fairly calm early in the morning and then it builds up.  We try to get off the water by noon but if there's no wind then we stay out a little longer.

Last year there were days at Bean Hollow where there was no waves and little wind and lots of fish.  Then its a matter of how long your bladder can hold out...LOL.  Then again last year at BH, we did have a visit from the land lord.  Oh well, "do you feel lucky, punk?" had a different meaning at that point.

Cheers,

Gary

Martin -

Nice report and fish. If you quit now, you may be able to make a complete recovery.  :smt005  BTW, check your hull after fishing to see how much water leakage you have before you head out to big blue. You don't want to have a Frank experience.  :smt044
