Well I suppose to fish the Bean but opt out due to poor condition. I got a free pass to fish and I'm not going to waste it. Arrive at

the live bait dock at 7am. As I was scooping water for bait bucket my car key  slip out of my other hand and hit the water and

vanish. :smt013  :smt010 . I didn't have a spare key on me. My only option now is to call my wife and have her bring me a spare

key. The bait guy saw the whole thing and suggest that I go the Harbor master and borrow a magnet and try to fish it up. went up

and borrow a magnet the size of a brick with a long rope attach to it. lower it down and tap the bottom lightly around the area

where it sank. On the first pull up my key is found attach to the magnet. Apparently incident like mine occur a lot according to the

Harbor master. Bought bait  and launch from the UC sail dock across the bait shop at 8am. Light wind and choppy condition at

launch off. Fish the northern side of the Pier until 1 pm. Had one take down and two scratched bait. Caught a 31 incher on the take

down. Stop at 7eleven on the way home and bought a lottery ticket. Sorry no on the water pix. I lost or misplace my camera. here

the "garage door" shots

What was the stronger emotion:  relief that you recovered your keys or stoke that you pulled in a fat flattie? :smt003

Nice report

Congrats Tin.  I'm glad to see you getting out.  Berkeley was an excellent alternate plan to the Bean.  The bite around the pier has been good lately especially with live chovies.

Nice one VW! Flatties are good. I'm starting to think having a magnet on a rope stashed in the car isn't a bad idea. Glad you got your keys back w/o too much drama.

1.Nice fish!  Long ago I fished off that pier, soaking grass shrimp, never saw anyone catch anything but sharks and crab.

Ditto.  I've never caught much off Berkeley pier either, but recently, it's been great for halibut.  I know a guy that recently fished the pier everyday for a week and caught at least one halibut everyday.  Two of the days scored limits which is almost unbelievable.  He used live anchovies and fished straight down near the pilings.

Nice Fish and Report,  Funny though.......usually when things start out "ifffy" (keys for example) it's often difficult turn things around. Once you retrieved the keys it was only a matter of how big of a fish you would catch!
