Not too long ago I took my bassin reel (Shimano spirx 4000 spinning) to Mel cottons to get it spooled with fresh line.  They filled it with something in the 12lb range.  I thought I'd be good for line, but this last weekend I was out on Clear lake (PB) and had boat load of trouble with the line.  I was throwing loops off the spool! Even after soaking the line with "reel magic" This line, (Apparently crap, bottom line stuff) had more memory than this laptop I'm using now. :smt013
The line was coiled down the length of the rod.  I ended up cutting 3/4 of the spool out! I don't think the guy behind the counter spooled it on backwards (At least I hope he didn't)  So That crap line has been removed.

I need a name of a brand of line that I can get to load my reel with that won't coil up after a month on the spool, one with no memory!

Any favorites out there?

Funny you should bring this up Troy becuase the last time I had my line spooled at Mel Cotton's I had the same result - MAJOR line twistage.  I forget exactly what they put on, some flourocarbon of some sort, but I chalked it up to ineptitude of the dude behind the counter.

Most major line companies have a softer line for spinning like Trilene XL, a good dealer should know which ones. Check catalogue write ups or "Tackle Tour" for more info.
Also make sure your spool is not overfilled and ,wound on correctly. Wetting a freshly spooled line before using will help the break in. Water is fine or a wetting agent like reel magic. Learn to do it yourself its easy, unless you are filling large saltwater reels w/hundreds of yds. of spectra. :smt002

An outstanding mono is P-line's CXX... pricey, but worth every penny IMHO.

I think it depends on what types of tactics and lures you are using. For finess I use fluoro for topwater and heavy jigging I use spectra. The new fluorocarbon lines cast alot better than they used to.

Learn to do it yourself its easy

I usually do it myself but I had just purchased a reel and they offered to do it for free, so I took them up on it - last time I do that. :smt012

Yozuri Hybrid

Agreed, or Maxima Ultra Green. I've used both on spinning reels without trouble.

I've also been experimenting with Maxima flourocarbon and I'm pretty pleased with it so far, although I've only used it on a baitcaster.

Thanks alll,
I'll look at the following lines, P Line Cxx, Yozuri hybird and Maxima Ultra green, next time I'm in Fishermans wharehouse.  I'm sure they won't load my reel wrong!

Was it P-Line?  I spooled 3 reels with it at MC's and I want a damned refund!  Its crap, crap, crap...  Used twice, on each reel.  One (bait caster) has a 'perm' birdsnest, im just gonna cut out and toss.  The other two were spinners, and have loops and line twist like I haven't seen.  Going there today probably, gonna let them know how I feel about P-Line.

I've had problems with P-line on spinning reels because I think it is a bit too stiff. But, on one of my bass baitcasters I've been using P-line flouroclear without a problem. I've also used the same line on a baitcaster when throwing inline spinners for salmon in Benicia with good success.

I don't remember the brand that was spooled onto my reels spool, the line is light green in color, it came off a large spool of line. Simply crap line IMO!
While on the lake dealing with the many loops I was constantly spraying down the line on the spool with reel magic, it seemed to help a little, for a few casts.  didn't last long.

My darn costco combo's  (Rod & reel) line which I'm sure was bottom of the barrel line to start with, had not one twisted loop the entire weekend! I ended up using it the rest of the day after the last loop left maybe 60 feet or so on my regular bass rod's reel.

For me  it's Maxima UltraGreen on everything, it takes a beating and rarely gives me trouble on my spinning reels unless it's overloaded.  I have one saltwater reel that has a "coat hanger" varnish color to it and if I ever find the maker I am gonna buy a  giant spool of it.
