I drove down to the spot another poster mentioned for a Beach Launch in capitola west of the wharf, i drove down to the spot on prospect but did not see any obvious places to walk down and launch, can anyone help? Santa cruz has so much ocean and so few places to access it for yakkers  :smt010

there is a dirt (sand?) ramp just to the right of the pier entrance.  You can back your truck up there or park in the yellow loading zone space to the left of pier entrance.

Carry the yak and most gear  down the ramp then go park your car.

Top of the hill above RR tracks for free parking.  Come back  and set up.  Launch right next to the pier West side/

I usually carry my radio and rods with me from the car, so as not totempt anyone too much.  Other gear always has been OK.

Later in the year, maybe now, the wharf has a floating dock accessible at the tip.  You can drive onto the wharf (3mph), dump your stuff, park, and launch.  Sometimes this is more covenient, sometimes less.

Good luck, PM me if you arestill confused or call 831-251-9732

The floating ramp is there. You could also park in the loading, walk your yak down to ramp with your cart and avoid  driving your car down that narrow pier and launching from the beach i guess. I just launch from the beach and park up top. That area gets so much fishing pressure it blows my mind.

When you paddle out, make sure you are clear of all the fishing lines from the pier. Some of those guys cast pretty far out.

Plus half of them are drunk and ill tempered already. :smt003

No alcohol allowed on Cap Wharf.  :smt002
Even though there is an open-air bar at the end of the wharf.... :smt009
