Come 3pm I had already been on the water for 8 hours giving Kayak lessons and Tours. I knew as well as anyone what an Epic fishing day I was missing out on. Without an ounce of energy I loaded an Extreme to the roofrack and barreled down the 101 towards Trinidad. Salty dog (Graham) is always game to fish and met me there. We first headed out beyond prisoner rock to drop a a crab pot and then made our way south towards our usual haunts. I dropped down a lead head jig on bright red bucktail scampi and slammo on the first drop, I brought up a nice fighting Ling. Graham who is still virgin to a Lingcod watched with baited breath but when I said "Hey why don't take that camera there and start snapping some friggin pictures he was all business "No No Hawk I gotta get on these fish here". It was decent fishing for the next hour. We caught a mess of smallish blacks. I had a few underlings and Graham pulled up a Cabezon. We both lost tackle but that's how it is at the beginning of the season till you remember where all the snaggy spots are. The fog started to roll in so we headed in after collecting an empty crab pot. I have a Mother's day kayak tour with bazillions of people tomorrow and I'm already wiped out but at least my freezer is happy again, let the good times roll!!!

Right on, Hawk.  Good score for near the harbor.  Let's get together soon.

Being an honorable sportsman is way more important than what you catch.
