I just did an "Intro to Scuba" with Aquan at the Burgess Pool in Menlo Park. FUN STUFF!!! I'll be taking the actual class pretty soon and hope to get certified. If anyone is interested in getting PADI certified, you can get a free class if you can get 5 of your friends/family to sign-up with you. Send me a PM if you are interested. (Our Scuba program only allows 6 students per class with a Dive Instructor and an assistant)

Certified in Los Angeles in 1972, "LAUI", version of NAUI.

Last dive was a week on Catalina, 2000.

Still free dive for abs at Salt Point now and again..

Where does the time go??

I got my C-card about 5 years ago.  If you are ever in the area (Santa Rosa) give me a PM.  Maybe we can hit Gerstel Cove.  It's a marine sanctuary, so you can't fish.  But, it is usually well protected with some incredible marine life.
My wife has been toying with the idea of doing a "try scuba class" to see if she wants to certify.

1976 Got my NAUI OW cert. I think it was '76, or maybe '77... the '70's are a little hazy for me.
2003 my daughter wanted to get certified for her senior project, so I joined her. We both got our PADI OW cert.
2004 I got my PADI Advanced Open Water.
2004 received my PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) cert.

I've been wanting to do the Rescue Diver class but can't seem to find the time.

Joel: you look like a seal, I don't recommend you scuba dive in Northern California.  I wanna keep you around for a little while longer.

NAUI certified in the late 80's, but haven't been diving in a long, long time.  I have a buddy who teaches  at West Valley College who's always inviting me to join one of his beginning classes for a refresher course...maybe this is the year I take him up on it!  :smt003

Joel,

I'm PADI certified.  It's been a while since my last dive (Kauai 2001).  I wouldn't mind diving on a clear day.

John, neither do I but it sure is nice having free access to  all the gear needed :smt002 I'd like to tank dive for Halibut in the Monterey area as soon as I get cert. Let's definitely hook up for that!

I still enjoy free diving more :smt045

ssgbart - thanks for the invite, I'll surely take you up on that! I'd like nothing more than to swim among the fish and not necessarily kill them...sometimes I do have a kind heart  :smt002

NAUI certified in the early 80's. Have all my own gear and get it serviced annually whether it got used or not. I freedive TONS more than I SCUBA. A lot less hassle without all the extra gear; although staying down longer than 20 seconds is pretty awesome.  :smt044
Sidenote: If you ever go on a long range boat ( Islander ) DO NOT FORGET YOUR DIVE CARD!!!!!  I totally zoned on that. The DM offered to take me on a 'check out dive' so I could get wet but all I wanted to do was hunt so I passed. Hauled all that gear for nothing. I did freedive and it was incredible.

Mooch,

I'm a card carring member of PADI sense 1984.
I haven't been in the water in a long time, but this "MADNESS" has given me the itch again.

Congratulations on your first pool dive and good luck with the class.

I got PADI certified sometime around 1990 in Goleta at a place called "California Watersports" of all things. I'll tell ya, you do a google search for that name & you don't necessarily find dive shops...

I too, have not been scuba diving since about 1998 so its been a while. I've got a couple tanks & regs & all the other gear, but none of it has been maintained since 99. Heck, I'm not even sure I can still fit into my dive suit!

Back when I was diving in Laguna Beach almost every weekend, I had my own set of twin 72's  (with harnesses, no backpack). These old boys had the old fashioned j valve reserve. I think they were made in the mid sixties.

When I sent them in years ago to have them hydrostated, they came back to me cut in half... Guess they failed the test.. :smt003

I was NAUI certified in '85, and since then I have been scuba & free diving every year.  For fish, I mostly scuba dive in Pacifica & Monterey.

I did PADI in 2000 and have made it a point to go at least once a year.  I own my own gear and 2 tanks, though I probably will get a new regulator set soon.  Since I own tanks I'll bring my gear along on trips and if conditions are beautifull I can pull them out and go on a fun dive.  Otherwise I don't use them much.  Did try for halibut in MB a year or two ago, no halibut but I did find a 1'x4" piece of whale rib-bone.

I'd like to dive the pinnacle at chef's kitchen sometime...
