Fished Greyhound south about 1/4 mile yesterday.  Caught a bunch of black rockfish, a couple at 4 lbs.  Got one undersize ling (23 in) and got bagged on one that looked legal when the sealion brought it up to show me.  Black in/around kelp patches.

where is greyhound rock? does it resemble a dog or a big delicious drink full of vodka and grapefruit juice?

it's between Davenport and Ano Nuevo
There's lots of parking (with smelly toilet) and a fairly long, relatively steep, paved "trail" to the beach. Poison oak encroaches the path.
There's a cove.

I fished that area with Josh, Ethan and one other guy a few years back (back on my Cobra Explorer days). I caught 3 blacks ranging 3 to 4 pounds - right next to a kelp bed straight out the cove. Ethan caught a monster halibut that day as well. Looks really fishy and the drop off to deeper water is fairly close. The kayak haul back up to the parking lot is like a death march....very steep  :smt011

If there was an easier way to get back up - I'd fish this area more often  :smt002

if it's calm, you should be able to launch at wadell creek without
much difficulty and then paddle south.  Leo and I eyeballed this
last weekend. should be able to use the creek from the parking
lot.

paddling south scares me because if the wind comes up, it could
be a long paddle back north. that's my primary worry.

I surfed just north of greyhound rock last saturday. A guy in a skiff+
was hooting and hollering, rod bent the whole time, no more than
300 yards outside us, probably less. I don't know if he left any fish
for us tho,  :smt011

A big ass party boat did one drift just south of the big rock itself before
moving on and leaving the skiff in peace.  it would be annoying having
that thing hovering over you.

Yeah - I remember seeing a couple party boats the first and last time I was there   :smt011 Let's hope they leave some fish for us.

How far of a paddle would it be from Wadell Creek?

Mooch,
IF you launch from Waddell, try paddling north  :smt002

Stop when you see the "island" or lots of seals!!  Good rock/ling fishing.

Be on the look out for Mr Whitey, though.

That area gets more rocky (better) the farther north you go, with the best being S and SW of ano nuevo.  Launching from waddel creek, it's probably best fishing to just fish the first rocky bottom you find on your way north.

I didn't find greyhound to be exceptional.  Ethan pulled at least two halibut out of bean hollow that year, as well as a 30lb ling and countless rockfish/cabbies.  Other than the halibut and 3 nice rockies for joel, greyhound rock only produced a bunch of short lings and gopher rockfish between the 4 of us.  Certainly not worth the toil of getting up the trail compared to other spots.

the only reason wadell/greyhound might be a choice is that it is south of
pigeon point.

not to belabor the obvious, but bean hollow is north of pigeon point. so it will almost always be significantly rougher. it's like our own mini point concepcion.

the windswell from 310 and points north doesn't seem to make it
around pigeon point, or is greatly attenuated.

I think the paddle from waddell creek is less than one mile, no more
than from davenport to scott's creek.

I have surfed ano nuevo, that little cove in there lots of times. I always used to figure no shark would get past the meat counter of that island
all the way into the cove, but one was sighted one october, right in
by shore.  I can't imagine getting near that island.  big sea lions,
elephant seals, whitey.  I don't think it gets any worse.

I inspected pigeon point itself recently. I think a launch could be made
there. poison oak.  steep short trail. super bumpy dirt drive down to
the put in. but it could be done. I don't know if the point is fishy,
but there's tons of rocks visible.

launching from scott's creek and paddling north towards greyhound
got me fish the last two outings.
