Made myself sick wanting to get out there on opening day....so I called in sick and went fishing. LOL   Decided to opt for Coral st, free parking, short paddle and no entry fee.
Launched at 7 am.The cove was a bit of a mess, some of the set waves were breaking across it. Made it out in a hurry between them with no problem.
Got out to about 35 ft of water and dropped down a new diamond jig tipped with squid. Hooked a few little rockcod and then moved out to 45 ft of water. Dropped down and within a few minutes I got some big tugs. Took a little effort to coax the fish off the bottom with my lighter 7 ft rod. Pulled up a nice fat Cabby just over 20 inches. Caught a few more little cod and decided to head in when the sheep started showing up.
Only other guy out there was a local in a 6 ft dingy. He was hand line fishing and was doing OK. I saw him get a huge blue.
Right after I landed, the dingy fisherman came in too. Glad he decided to head in when he did. The wind was starting to pick up.
Safe fishing...KIMO
