I got a beautiful little cab on squid today.  Bill's pot leading cabby was on one of his swim baits I believe.

I use a custom made swimbait. If you want some let me know but I am pretty backed up at the moment.  :smt002

Berkely Power grubs in rootbeer work also.

We went out of the Golden Gate a couple weeks ago and were fishing the northern tip of the Farlongs and we were using white/green/rootbeer scampi jigs and were knocking them dead.

Good luck,

Thanks...that's what I thought...I find I get a faster response if I intentionally get it wrong in my question:)

Big Sur last week caught one on two on different days. One 25" and one 22". Both liked rootbeer scampies.

For cabs I think rootbeer and other redish colors are key since they key in of rockcrabs that are redish and black

Yeah, i have a big rootbeer scampi that I've used lately...nothing but lings and nice cabs on it...I need to tie on a stinger hook so that nothing chomps off the tail...

I've been thinking about adding stinger hooks to some of my scampis. Seems like I miss a lot of strikes because they can just let go. Anyone got a good way to attach one to a standard leadhead? I was thinking about a short piece of wire to the stinger, maybe larksheaded onto the leadhead hook shaft? haven't spent much time trying this out but it sounds like a good way to increase hookups.

It works great...I've caught a lot of fish on stinger hooks where otherwise they would have ripped off the tail. Just take 4"-6" of 20lb or so line (lighter than your main line is good in case you get snagged) and tie it to your hook, above the barb so that it doesn't slip off. Poke the line through the rubber tail and tie a hook to the other side...that's my method, although I'm sure there are other ways.

I caught one last year at bean hollow on a white bucktail jig.

cab coughed up an octopus that looked a lot like the jig.

some books list squid as the only bait for cab.

How about a plastic crab of some sort,  they use those D.O.A shrimp
in florida to good effect, I think there are crabs available too.
