It's a Hobie Kona. Sorry, but I'm new and need all the help I can get!

Twice the fun! The Kona double is the perfect way to share the Hobie experience. The Kona’s all new design (patent pending) incorporates a shorter waterline with a wide, stable template. The result is a nimble double that’s a snap to paddle, but still features plenty of cargo room, twin cup holders, on-hull paddle storage and two mesh-covered stowage spaces for all your gear. The ideal couples and/or family boat.

Specifications:
Length: 11' 6" / 3.51 m
Width: 34" / 0.86 m
Weight: 60 lbs. / 27.22 kg
Capacity: 450 lbs. / 204 kg

Features:
>> Two adjustable deluxe seats
>> Two 2-piece paddles w/ on hull storage
>> Three cup holders
>> Easy-carry molded in hand grip
>> Pick-up style cargo area with cargo lashing
>> Two mesh-covered stowage pockets
>> Two 8" hatches
>> Center seat position with utility trays
>> Stackable for easy storage/ transporting
>> Hobie Gear Bucket
>> Hobie Dry Bag
>> (2) Water Bottles

Why get a double? Will you always be fishing with your wife? They can be a pain to handle by yourself.

Yes I have a wife and two kids who like to fish. Plus my daughter and I want to try AB diving.

You might think about getting 2 boats. As said, doubles can be a real pain when you're alone.

The whole concept of an 11 foot tandem is BAD...BTDT.   If you want a real tandem its going to need to be at least 13 feet, but they are best in the 15-16 foot category.

if you like a tandem  try the hobie oasis 14'  or outfitter 12' or odessey 14'

tandems are great as long as you want to be with someone

I rented a double Hobie w/mirage drive last year and took my wife out on Loch Lomond.  It was a blast!  I have heard so many bad stories about 'mutiny on the kayak', but with a hobie at least your wife doesn't have to paddle, where I think a lot of the issues come from.

That said, if she showed more interest in kayaking, I would just get a second yack  :smt003

From what I witnessed at Rancho Leonero,

the Hobie tandem was Dumping people all over. They were beginners just trying it out, but,I feel it sits a little too high and therefore tends to be a little more tippy.

I took my boys out on the Ocean Kayak Malibu two and loved it :smt007

I was able to paddle no problem by myself, (and I am not a Paddler :smt002)

with one boy in front fishing, Really Fun
