Lots of folks are fishing the opening days but unfortunately I cannot take time off from work. Anybody interested in hitting Stillwater (or anywhere near) on the first Sat of May? I would be even ready to go down to Limekiln if there is interest. It's been a while since I've been out on the salt.

What up Ark, Monster Guppy and myself will be fishing the coastline near the Monterey Bay Aquarium on that Sat you are more than welcome to join... We usually launch at the coast guard pier, but someday we will figure out A better spot were we don't have to pay. There are alot of good s[pots for cod for we have already scooped it out Andy...

Hi FishMaster. That would be good however I've noticed that the  fish are more smaller and scarcer near the area you have indicated in Monterey. Not that Stillwater will be great but it has a bit more potential as I have gotten a few nice reds there. I'll be sure to join you if there is less interest in Stillwater. I know the fee is a pain and since I live in Sunnyvale, I have to drive down there as well and I'd like to make it worth it.

Well if the fishing is terrific on the first like I hope its going to be we would definitely consider going back that Sat. We have no problem paying that fee.

Can't wait.

Hi ark,

I posted here http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,12620.msg119606.html#msg119606 but I'm happy to reply in this thread.  :smt004

I'm planning on heading to Stillwater on Saturday morning...and I live in Sunnyvale.  Care to share the cost of gas?  Might make those fish less expensive...  :smt002  I have plenty of room on the top of my Toyota for another yak.  Let me know.

Hey Pete. I'm not sure yet where Etienne is planning to fish. He said someplace near or south of Monterey. I'll wait for him to let me know first. Would you be open to fishing somewhere other than Stillwater as well? It would be in the same vicinity, perhaps towards the middle to north end of carmel bay.
I'll know more soon and will let you know.

Sure, Etienne knows where the bigguns are so I'll be flexible.   :smt002  Dunno if I'm up to hauling my beastly Outback up and down Garrapata, but anywhere else should be okay.

Count me in!  I made the long trek to Still Water for opening weekend last year and it was well worth it.  I'm keeping my eye on the weather though and hope that this wind goes away.  I also need to figure out where it's legal to fish this year.

Hope to meet up with everyone,

Gary

Hi Gary. Will be nice to see you again. There are a few spots we can hit in Carmel. For example we could launch from Monastery and then paddle up north about .5 miles right in front of Carmel River State Beach. I caught some nice reds in that spot last year. We could hit Stillwater as well as an alternative. I'll check with Etienne what he wants to do.

Talked with  Etienne on the phone. I think we should meet at Monastery and then paddle north to CRSB. There are some nice drop offs there (fishing legally that is). If conditions are rough we can always head to Stillwater.

That okay with you guys?

Fished Stillwater with Alex today and MBK yesterday.  Too tired to post much now, but just want to let people know that even though the forecast said today should be the best regarding wind...it was pretty windy most of the morning and early afternoon.  Coming from the NW most of the time and kept pushing us away from the coast.  Lots of snagged rigs. Was hard to hold any position unless you were leashed to kelp.  I got a small 25 inch ling.  Blake, a local kayak fishing guide we met said it was pretty slow and windy from his point of view as well.  Blake mainly guides clients at Stillwater. Near the end, I had gone close to the shore near the point to get out of the wind and hoped I might get a cabbie.  Only about 20ft of water--nothing.  Right after I left, Blake said he went to the same place I was at and nailed a 34 inch, fat ling (on frozen anchovies), and his client started getting a near limit of blues.  B4 that they had almost nothing.

Disappointing that the day, predicted to be the least windy, was still pretty windy.  The swell was not a problem though.  Maybe if you guys go tomorrow, it will be a smooth day, just coming a day late for us.

Good luck

I'll try to be at monastery by 6:00.  If I'm late I'll look around for your cars and try to contact you on the radio, channel 69.

If there's a change in plans give me a ring on my cell: (925) 915-0453
