First post....sorry its a few days late

Tested out the new fishfinder! Worked great. Thanks to all on this site that posted the 'how to" for setting it up. Now the fishing report...

Sat at SCR hit the water at 11ish worked the area between the launch and dam. Seemed to get hit on every lap! Got 1-2 each on wedding ring (pink), fire tiger/silver kastmaster. Got the remainder (5+) on a small seps flasher set up trailing a circle hook with a berkeley trout worm. Off the water by 3:30. All were released. For planters they looked great....big fat and healthy (about 12-16 in each) I am used to seeing the Del Valle planters that have beat up tails.

Thanks again all for the help

I hooked a few early in the day on j hooks. I then hooked one deep and it already had one deep with 4 feet of leader trailing from his mouth. So I did my best to clean him up and release. I then saw some jackass catch one then drag it across the height of the damn 25ft and then proceed to drop it back in the water (a few hours later I saw that same guy fall in the lake, JUSTICE!)...so guilt got the best of me I used size 10 eagle claw (laser sharp) circle bait hooks #L702G. I am sure I lost a few to a lack of a hook set....but oh well better fish karma

Did it work? did you hook up in the mouth after that?

I have used size 1 circle hooks and above in saltwater, always worked well for me, never thought to try the mini-versions.

you are not supposed to 'set' them with a hit, just pull the line tight, they set up in the corner of the mouth while coming out of the gut and then penetrate. kind of a 'slow' set. seems like that should work well for kayak trolling, you can just keep paddling and it should set up, when the rod loads up, just reel. it is important that the point of the hook not be buried in the bait tho. some fish (ironically like salmon) have mouths that don't let the circle hook 'catch' in the corner of the mouth very well.

might be a good idea for whole nightcrawlers and C&R bass.
