Andy (kickenbass) and I went to a ranch that my buddy owns today for a late aftermorning turkey hunt. We set-up in a small meadow and Andy started calling. We immediately heard and saw turkeys about 100 yards off in the distance (at our 1 o'clock). The moved to our 12 o'clock and hooked-up with some and hens and locked up. Andy kept calling and calling, and they kept answering, but they remained locked-up.

About 20 minutes later, a Tom answered to our 3 o'clock and and starting walikng toward was at about 70 yards. He was strutting, drumming and answering back, but then he started walking down and draw toward a creek.

I thought sure he was going to change directions and head for our decoy, but no. No big deal, as he was limping with one foot. All suddenly I heard another Tom answer Andy from the same area as Mister Limper. I looked and saw that he was strutted up and drumming. I turned his way and watched as Andy continued to call and receive answers.

He got within about 35 yards and I flicked off the safety on my Remington 11-48 (granpas old gun). Just then Andy said in a soft voice, "take him tank him". I squeezed the trigger and.......WAM!, the 2 3/4 inch 6 lead shot went off. The turkey rolled and started his death march. He rolled down the hill toward the creek, then got back up and started walking back to me, as if to say, "you got me dude, finish me off already!".

I waited for another clear shot at his head and......WAM! Over he rolls again. The robo Turkey sustains another direct impact to his head/neck area. I'll be dipped in shit, but he is still up and walking. Now he again starts walking toward us, I sound off to Andy to, "put and arrow in him!". Andy draws back and shoots low. I have one round left, so I go for the coop-de-graw. Down he goes blowing lung blood out of his his beak.

He had a 9" beard and about 1" long spears. It was a good day.

Andy called for about another 2 hours before another Tom came toward us. He was about 50 yards away when Andy set his calls down and set-up for the bow shot. While we were waiting for him to crest the hill, a hen got his attention and off he went.

It was a great day! I hope your went well too!

CHEERS!
