I've got a new rod I need to put in the arsenal, thanks to it falling apart from corrosion and use, and I want to move up to a high quality brand rod. I'm really down w/ keeping it local and luckily enough some of the best in the business are right here. My question, to those who own one or the other, or both, what are you impressions of the brands? Pro's/Cons and any other comments and advice welcome. BTW I'm looking for a salmon/steelhead rod around 8'.
Thanks!

Zee, both make great product but the old school in me leans towards Lamiglas. They do have the kayak models in their tri-flex which are supposed to withstand hi-sticking.
I would choose the model with the specs that best fits your style...

Hard to go wrong with either of them in my opinion.  Both make high quality product, particularly in their higher end offerings.  I think you'll find more options with Lamiglas in the salmon/steelhead category, particularly in the mid-price range.  I'd say if you're going for top of the line, Loomis' GLX blanks are very hard to beat.

Can't go wrong with either, however, it depends on what tactics you are using. I just built a Lamiglas steelhead rod and love it. For casting, particularly light lures I think G loomis may have the edge. From the GL3 series up, they are casting machines.

Z what are you going to use it for?? I have a couple of both. I think as far as value Lamiglas is a better deal, but if you want a rod you really fall in love with I gotta give the edge to the Loomis. Again its a lot like Kayaks it's what feels good to you. I think Lamiglas does a better job on their reel seats and Loomis does a better job on their guides and finishes both make great blanks. I love my HSR 930C as an all around rod super light lotta backbone, sensitive and casts well lotta hours and fish on that rod and the only wear I see is the grip separating a little. On casting I would give the edge to Loomis their shorter rods cast better and their long rods a little straighter the softer Lamiglas are sorta all over the place, but their stiffer rods cast fine. You have another local Co up there Rogue and I think they are putting more thought and care into their rods than either Loomis or Lamiglas, worth a look if I didn't have so many rods that's what I would buy. I know Terry has a couple and loves them

I have both, and like them both a lot.  The Lami is my new favorite, and was about 1/2 the cost.

Can't go wrong with either one of thsoe choices. They both make great rods.
I do think it is somewhat suspicious to see Lamiglas rods at Longs now. They seem to be producing some lower-end rods now, which I have seen at Longs. I was actually gonna buy one for surfperch (8'6" Rock Creek series @ $70) until I noticed one of the guides was broken. So I decided to hold-off on purchasing yet another rod. And I am glad I did....because I have seen two broken Lami rods at Longs since then (granted, who knows what happened to them; maybe some kid snapped them on purpose or something?).

I have a few Lamis and I totally love them. [Planning to get a Loomis surfcasting rod this summer too.] But it seems odd to me that Lami has found a way to produce cheaper rods now. Did they change the manufacturing process? Would that have an effect on their higher-end lines?

It is not that hard to replace guides if you like your old rod. I can walk you through the process if you are interested.

I am building a Lamiglas inshore rod and the blank I bought online had a defect in the finish and it started peeling off. To make a long painful story short, I had to ship it back to Lamiglas who sent me a new blank but I was out $20 for the shipping. Anyway, if you buy a Lami, check the construction and finish carefully.

I have a rod that the top coat has cracked by the guide feet on top of the wraps after a couple of good fish and the blank has discolored in a 6" section doesn't effect performace just the bling, I have another that has a chip like Scott's and peelled a little before I put a dab of epoxy on it.
