This is a new show on community radio, 107.3 FM out of Occidental on Sundays from 8-9 am.  The show broadcasts a low transmission FM signal that gets it as far as parts of Sebastapol and Santa Rosa but will soon be available live online.  Right now, they reach several thousand households.  I'll be hosting "Fishing The Wine Country" with a different "special guest" every week.

We'll be talking about regional fishing, important fishery issues and fielding caller questions.  Oh, and an emphasis on KAYAK FISHING!!!!

Our goal is to inform on, educate about and increase fishery awareness while acknowledging sportfishing as a traditional American family pastime.

This came together really fast so with little miore than a day to prepare, the inaugural show may be a little rough.  I will cover the Salt Creek and salmon issues and NCKA, the kayak fisherman's Welcome Wagon to Nor Cal.

Got any ideas about this??? I can use all the help I can get and invite your suggestions.

Have a Great Holiday Weekend and Continued Good Fishing To All,
Spike

Hello mr. spike. it is really exciting to have a guy like you in our community. my diving guru, brad smith, lives in occidental and he says that michelle is definately the best and most fun bartender in occidental. i think your show should include current fishing conditions at the local hotspots ie: whos catching what with what and where. i would also like to hear about any local fishing events and tournaments. i would also like to hear about local spearfishing and diving. i think it would be great if you could keep us up to date on the mlpa issues and the everchanging regulations. i would also like to hear about you, your fishing stories, the evolution of kayakfishing and whats next for kayakfishing.

Love the idea. Tips, tricks, advice from locals and fishing issues are all good topics. Maybe even eventually work in some kayak fishing get-togethers/demos to bring new folks into the sport.

And remember if you're online, your audience will be from all over.

I would like to see some focus on the MLPAs and the current fight to keep Salt Point open.

That sound like a fun....for you.

It looks like your going to take info from our site and send it over the radio for everyone to hear. I'll just post my fishing reports weeks late from now on to keep my good fishing spots good fishing spots.

CHEERS!

Thanks for the feedback, all of it appreciated.
Mahi, I typed a long, detailed reply to your concerns and just lost it.  Don't sweat it,  I won't be plagiarising the site (too bad) or writting a cheesy show that ruins it for anyone.  "Giving up spots" is an issue among anglers I'm sensative to.  Promoting the sport for over 13 years, I've earned a better reputation than that.
Keep those comments coming!

Thanks Spike. I hope your show can be very educational about laws, the impact of keeping too many fish, and "what to use and how to present", rather than "where to go".

CHEERS!

First of all, I'd like to welcome Spike to the "neighborhood"  (Norcal) :smt006 Second, for thinking of us (NCKA) and getting us involved on the local community radio show. We already having Allen Bushnell's radio show covering the greater Santa Cruz area so it will be nice to see another show covering North of the Gate.

As for suggestions on topics, I agree with mickfish - to focus on the MLPA's and help and support Sean's (scwafish) battle with the "Evil Empire" that's trying to take so much from us sport fishermen. We need to expose this issue to more and more coastal fishermen and get them involved in anyway possible.

Thanks again Spike and hope to see more of you on our future NCKA gatherings :smt023

Is this the same Mahi who had his great big ol' sturgeon catch broadcast here before he even hit the shore?   :smt005

Hey... Spike on the mike.  Right on!
Congrats on the new radio show.  I knew your unique talents and manly voice would land you radio deal someday.
Ever thought about doing voice-overs for commercials?  It's lucrative gig and you'd be perfect for that too. :smt003

Thanks you guys.  ChuckE, all I don't need is a new vocation.  I've done a few radio commercial voice overs, had the voices of NBC and Buick as clients and have a cousin "Joyce's Voices" who does the Simpsons and anything else.  I've gone in another direction.
This is community radio and there is no "deal".   Since there are no ads or sponsors, we I can pretty much plug the sport without bias.  A perfect situation.

Can't wait to hear the show, Dennis.  My best advice would be to to remind guests that "radio time goes quick."  I'm sometimes oversensitive for our guests who come on the show, and feel like they haven't covered everything they want to talk about, and we've found it's  a must to prep them beforehand.

Exciting to have kayak fishing as a main emphasis!  You go boy.

Allen

GREAT! Your really coming up in the world Dennis, or should I say NORTH :smt044
Congrats on the new radio show :thumright:. Those of us in central CA Will not be able to listen until the show is available live online. But, will be looking forward to listening soon. Alway's enjoy listening to Allen B's show :smt002

I can only echo what some have already said about MLPA's and to stay up on whats being done to repair the broken salmon fishery. I can only hope that sportfishing can be reignited as a traditional American family pastime.

Fishing reports from local bait and tackle outlets would be welcome. Educating folks on kayak fishing and planning an outing for those who might be interested. But for sure, will be looking forward to you hanging with the NORCAL Kayak Anglers. Hope to see you at an event soon :smt003
