Nice fish Dan. I was hoping to get a decent one this year. Now the best I can do is tie in this category. How are we gonna split the prize?????

Prize? My prize was actually catching one and then letting her go. Now if I could only catch a damn steelhead from my kayak, I'd be very happy.

Thanks everyone for the at-a-boys!

When I first set the hook and started to fight her, I thought I had a striper, because she didn't pull real hard.....at first. Then it was on! I could tell every time she would whip her tail from one side to the other by watching my line peal off. WOW! The power!

I used to have PowerPro line on that reel, but it was always fraying, so I switched out to 30 lbs Sufix super braid. The Sufix was a little more money, but it works much better.

The best part of the story is I don't have to chase dino's until next year.

Thanks again Sean for the assist!

Uh-oh!  Assist - Too bad about the lack of eligibility for AOTY...   :smt009

Way to go, Dan.  Couldn't happen to a nicer guy - but I'd bet a cranky sidekick is wishing it would happen to him right now!  It's all good - I'm sure Sean was thrilled to be there.

Now, I want the video and some more pics, damnit!   :smt003

What I meant by "assist" was yelling at me when appropriate, praising me when appropriate, and taking the photo's at the end. He never touched it until we went to measure.

Eric, I ready for a Northern trip for some giant rockies and halibut. Maybe even an overnighter like last year.  :thumleft:

Nice Dino and congrats on the successful release. I guess the snare doesn't injure them?

It's a lot easier on them than the gaff!

It easily could if you manhandle the fish.  We kept it in the water the whole time except for Dan's brief photo and were as careful as possible.  She looked good to go on the release.

If possible, I would avoid letting the snare get up under the gill plate. Just a suggestion.

Well Done, Congratulations!  Caught many on a boat, but not a kayak yet.
