I have a birthday coming up and my wife has agreed to upgrade my tackle box.  The question is, what kind of tackle boxes, or bags, are the best to use from a yak.  I have quite a few of the Plano type boxes now.

Do most of you use seperate Plano boxes and bags for each type of fishing?  If so, how do you deal with the crossover gear, like split ring pliers, split shot, lip gripper, etc., etc.?

HI SSB:

I leave my main $$ box in the Van and use
small Zip-Lock Bags for my pre-made  (6) leaders and Sinkers.
The Head Shop next to Fishermans' Wharehouse in San Jose
has a good asortment of Z-L Bags.
A Plastic Folgers Coffee container works good as a Tackle Box.
.        I use a net bag clipped to the Yak to hold everthing in place in case of a dunking.
The $3  Plano Small Jig boxes keep MY "Buzz Bombs" happy.

I have 2 small Tackle Logic soft sided tackle Satchels that a Plano fits inside
Keep the pliers and other cross use items in the pockets and switch out the Plano. I have one for Fresh and one for salt.
If it is a short trip I just stick what I need in my bucket hatch or pocket.

I use a small plano box, or even an Altoids tin in freshwater.

I use the small waterproof Plano boxes for lures, swapping out what I need depending on what fish I'm targeting.  I have 4-5 of these, so a few are always dedicated to specific fish (rockies, trout, etc).  I keep leaders in a Shimano ziplock doohickey designed for that purpose.  I rarely use my tackle box for anything these days outside of storage.  Even when I'm perchin' or walking the tidepools I'll limit myself to one or two small Planos tucked into my backpack.

I use a Plano tackle belt.  I clip it around the seat straps so it stays put.  A couple of small plano boxes go in the main pouch, and the side pouches hold a smaller box with weights and hooks.

Interesting concept...looks like plenty of storage without the bulk. Where did you pick up yours?

Great ideas.  I've been throwing a large Plano box in the milk crate and pliers and such just loose in the footwells.  The box is almost impossible to get to, and I can see disaster on the horizon with all the loose gear.

I just use the plano double sided tackle box that came with my OB.  Been too lazy in past to actually separate out the bass stuff from the trout stuff.  One side is bass and large items, scissors, knife, spinner baits and hooks, weights, swivels etc. crankbaits, other side is my trout stuff, roostertail spinners, kastmasters, worm & bait hooks,  crappie lures.  Has been working. I also  have a nice soft tackle /fanny pack I got at Bass Pro Shops 3-4 years back, I use for bank fishing, or when I'll be walking a ways.  I load it up with up to 4 small plano boxes loaded with weights, hooks, soft plastics (for bass) and spinners for trout.  It also carries my pliers/hemo's, fish attractant, reel magic, leader line spool, scissors.
I need to start not bringing everything, and pack just what will be used that day or outting.  I have enough small plano like boxes to do it, but theres that lazy thing again!
I'd post a link to bag I have but it's no longer in production.  I can post a picture though (Just not yet, haven't taken it yet) Oh yeah, I also have a "worm bag" I keep all my bass soft plastics in.

I have a Maurauder that has tons of storage.
I fit a kitty litter box inside the hull w/ drain holes to contain my tackle boxes, which are "lock & lock" boxes that fit thru the 8" hatch in front of me.
They can be left on deck because they are waterproof and float, unless totally filled w/lead.

I use a milk crate filled with plano boxes similar to what XSquid is using. I can fit 3 or 4 plano boxes in my milk crate. I also have a binder for my plastics. Works well for my needs.

I love the Tackle Logic bags.  I have one for every occasion.  Just grab it and go.  The pocket pages that come with it are kinda cheesy, but I changed mine out for Shimano ones when it wore out.  Fits tons of gear, very compact. Pliers etc. live with the yak, and I just switch out tackle bags.
