Hey John,

Looks great, but one question - why'd you put the clip on the loop?

For single big fish, it's no problem, but for rockfish & other smaller stuff, the normal practice is to just have a looped end.  The clip is placed on your belt.  When it comes time to offload your fish, you just unclip the stringer, grab the rod, & everything slides off much easier.   :smt001

Hey jgp,
The clip connects to the weight belt, where does the shank go? How does it all work?

I used the standard shank / cable / loophole stringers and that’s how I used to make them. They worked well but sometimes the shank slipped out of the eyelet and I lost the whole stringer. With the clip you have to remove the fish the same way you put them on but you can use the clip to attach it anywhere, around the waist, on a float , kayak etc..

I wear it on a weight belt clipping the longline clip to a ring on one end of my weight belt and the shank goes through a shank on the other end. In an emergency I drop the belt and stringer simultaneously.

Sometimes I also wear the stringer diagonally over one shoulder. When I get a fish I unclip it and string the fish, then I put the stringer around me and clip it together. A short delrin shank works best for this.

On a kayak you can clip it anywhere and no matter how you use it you can toss the whole stringer in the cooler after. The fish won’t slide off as easy as a traditional cable stringer but I think the clip makes it more convenient for me since I can use it several ways.

Another thing is I had some time on my hands and just thought making these would be fun: )

Sounds good.  I got my routine down pat, so the straight loop is more efficient for me; however, the way you have it set up definitely affords more flexibility for rigging options.   :smt001

I forgot to add, I cannot recommend ever wearing a fish stringer that goes around the waist due to the obvious safety factors. I wear them around my waist personally when I dive in water that does not have much kelp and even then I am prepared to cut the stringer in an emergency. Putting it on a weight belt and setting it up to be ditched with the belt is safer. Even safer yet, keep it on your float board or kayak.

I don't ever swim around with fish on my belt, too many pinnepeds and other critters out there to mess with you.  Entanglement is a concern too.

I actually liked the old avatar better (the internet cops one), but I think it was a bit subtle as to it's meaning.  I don't watch olympics anyway (except the alpine events) because I really don't care about sports I don't participate in.  Being a short white guy that pretty much eliminates the entire summer games.  I do snowboard...
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

heck, im not into sports much either. anything with a ball, forget it. if i have to run after someone, forget that too. snowboarding is hard, i fell many a times on my face and ass and almost broke both wrists trying it. i should have packed some pillows under my apparel that day.

dont they have snowboarding in the olympics now?
