Took some time off Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning to clear the head and escape last weeks madness at work.  Loaded the yak at 2 and hit up Reed's for a new casting rod, buying new fishing equipment always lightens the mood.  3 pm, traffic already sucked.

Ran up East Dunne and my first peek of the lake revealed......heavy wind and stained ass water.  Stopped at the first park entry and unloaded the gear.

Wind eased up as I headed south.  Hit a couple points with a Chartruese rattle trap but to no avail.  Pushed further back into the southmost cuts and figured this spot had to be holding.  Water was 4' max on the left side of the creek and only inches deep on the right side
.

Switched over to a creature bait and pitched every pocket in the stick ups but the wind was pushing my kayak all over the place making it impossible.  No precision boat control so I started chucking a suspending shallow diver and it saved me from the skunk.

Couple minutes later I go bendo on a larger fish, like an ass I grab the camera lookin for a cool bendo shot and the wind blows me into the stick ups, meanwhile the fish runs the opposite direction so I stick my legs out to wrap the sticks to prevent from being blown further into the cover and the fish spit the hooks.  Shit....so goes the yak, paddle, camera, rod, fish juggling act...next time I land first photo later.

My not so successful attempt at fighting the wind to stay in front of the fish.

Since I blew over my fishing grounds I went further up creek and wished I had a frog to toss over the scum.

Sun started dropping fast so I called it a day.  Little did I realize the wind had really picked up and I got worked on the paddle back.

Day 2 plan was scheduled to begin at 0 dark thirty but I didn't get on the water till after 9 oclock.  Sunny and glassy. Beautiful paddling conditions.

Paddled back to the spot and seen these little guys as an omen of good things to come.

but all they produced was this feisty little guy and more wind.  At least it wasn't a skunk.

On a side note.  I forgot my NCKA AOTY ruler in the truck on day 2.....to avoid any conflict I forwent the catching of any sizable fish.

NICCE report w/pics Art!....thought you launched the bigboat in there for a second....then the Yak pic popped up......COOL TRIP....too bad the BIG'r fish didn't get the memo!
Good on you for trying to get some points!...I got a 18"lmb from Clearlake and refused to enter a smaller fish than last year...so it went un-meas'd.

thought you launched the bigboat in there for a second....

Lol....too much hassle.  I've plugged for bass off the swimstep before with moderate success but its just not worth it.

This summer it will definitely be there.....towing a wakeboard......parked in the cove with hotties and a cooler.....and running yaks off the water  :metal

Nice agarcia! Looks like some fish have moved in the back now. But it's not time yet. A few more weeks and that place will be really nice. The bulk of the bass are still in the main body. Ken and I have been catching them not too far from the picnic area. You could have saved a lot of paddling and acrobatics with the feet. I got to say thats an impressive maneouver! Wow!

BTW, that's where I went to break in the newly re-dressed rod yesterday. Got 5 of 12 with a 17 1/2"er.

I ended up with 11 for 19 bites, in 3 hours, the same day compa was there.
There are a LOT of hungry fish willing to give you some fun only minutes of paddling from the launch.

About running off Ken F...I hope that ain't me? Remember now...I am "The Other Ken!
I'm the guy that will willingly hook you up if you bump into me (not literally) at the lake!

Nice 2 day adventure and pic's!
