I tried tossing my powerworm  and a zipper sloooowly as water temp showed to be 50*.   I didn't hit any bass in the face.  I know there are big bass there, but for me they all have loc-jaw!

I hear ya there Troy. I've had really crappy luck fishing for bass at LL. Though I did catch my first bass there as a child (maybe 10 years old). I'll never forget it  :smt007

Yeah, I tried for about a half hour for bass along the shore, drifting and casting a watermelon senko weedless.  No hits at all, but I am not very good at bass fishing.  Last year I did catch a nice one, probably 3lb's or so.  Was on the island and spotted a few of them chilling in the water near the docks.  I put 3 different baits in front of that puppy, almost knocking it on the head before I got a hit.

Hi Big J, tjtroy(?) and all the other NCKA members out on Loch Lomond on 3/3.  Also the guy who helped me lug my WS120 out of the pond.  I didn't make it out there until after one and didn't touch a fish.  I can honestly say "I didn't even care!"  It was just too fantastic out there.  I was also doing a shake down on a newly installed Garmin 230 blue fish finder.  I rigged the transom mount transducer inside the hull imbedded in a puddle of silicone.  Seems to work OK, but I think I may be getting false depth readings.  Oh well.  More on that later.

This is my virgin post (please be gentle) after having signed on back in Oct '05.  I met a group of NCKA guys at O'Neill Forebay doing a striper thing.  I was just getting started and you guys were already towing heavy stringers.  I met Mooch that day and he invited me over to their site for fresh deep fried striper and beer.  I was hooked on joining instantaneously.

Since then I've retired from Monterey County, bought a 4wheel Camper (pop up) for my 4x4 GMC Sonoma and spent a lot of time traveling and fishing.  That is up until Nov of '07.  Sort of tucked into hibernation mode and hardly fished at all.  I did go on a guided fly fishing drift boat trip on the Trinity R in late Oct and did my life time best fishing day, boating 5 chromer steelies.  Largest was 8#.  I'll post some shots but don't have the patience for the learing curve tonight.

The reason Loch Lomond was so awesome for me was because it was my first '08 Yak outing and the gorgeous heralding of Spring.  I had so much fun paddling I didn't want to get serious about fly fishing and ended up pulling a couple wooly buggers around for a while with neg results.

Nice chatting with you Janice., prime time for surf purch is coming soon and I'd be glad to share the little I know by meeting with you and others too, on one of the S Cruz beaches.  Takes about the same time from San Leandro to get to Loch Lomond as to the beaches.

I want thank all the members for the many tips I've gleaned from your postings.  Hopefully I can add something as I get more involved.  Till I see you guys again, keep your lines tight.
Harry

Let me be the first to say: Welcome to The Madness! Good to have ya here, harryls. And thanks for the great report too. I'm looking forward to fishing Loch Lomond from my kayak this year. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Great pics guys! I love that lake. Keep em coming.

Hi harryls and welcome to the forum. Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you up there on Monday. Thanks for the nice pics. I'll be up there the weekend of the 22nd/23rd. Not sure which day yet but keep you eyes on the hookup forum. Hopefully we can pull off another ncka invasion.

Yeah  :smt003 It is so wonderful up there!  It was also my first place to yak fish, last year in fact!  I had rented a Hobie from Mel Cottons and went up with my friends John Hog and his buddy Tim.  I took a bunch of photos and some video's that day and put them on youtube.  Check it out ;)

Try dropshot for bass.  Worms with some read in them.

There are a lot of crayfish in LL, so imitations of color or shape of them do alright.

They tend to be a bit deeper than most people think because of the clear water.

My avatar is a bass that won me my kayak at LL 2 years ago.

Hey, speaking of the craw fish.  Are you allowed to trap and keep them?  I know there are a ton there, at least on a few occasions I would have a swarm to fight off my fish that is.

MolBasser, I will give it some more practice :)  Maybe try drop shotting roboworms next time I am there, or working the bottom slowly with a jig.  Last time I was there, sept of last year, I gave some kids that were in a row boat some of my plastics, they caught some really nice looking bass!

I brought home a dozen or so bluegill from Loch Lomond a few years ago and several of them had chunks of crawfish in their digestive tracks.  Looked like they'd ganged up on a handful of crawfish...claws in two different fish, tail in another...one had a full small crawfish in its digestive track.

I was surprised since bluegill have fairly small mouths but since at least four of the fish I cleaned that night had crawfish bits in them, it's well worth trying flies/lures with those colors/patterns.

My personal best bluegill came out of Loch Lomond...eleven inches (and a nine incher the same day from roughly the same spot).

I had to miss the group outing on the 3rd...how about a rematch some day soon?  :smt001

I'd be down for that, depending on the day!
