How many of you use the smaller red wigglers over the standard night crawler?
I know the NC is much bigger, but you only get what? 12 in the cup.  The wigglers you get something like 50,  I know that blu-gil will hit either, there not picky, but I think they are greedy, and the bigger the chunk of worm might attract more fish.
I usually get the red wigglers, for two reasons,  I don't waste the worm by cutting into peices, (theres enough of them to not worry about) and thread the whole thing on. And second, what I don't use fishing, I take home and add to my worm bin for composting (kitchen scraps etc..)
Night crawlers are not good for composting.  Much better bait.

Hi JP,

I prefer NC. I've used both and NC seem to get me more fish. Especially when going for trout at LL.

I think it depends on what you are fishing for... Red wigglers really have a stink to them when you put them on the hook... Some fish prefer them while others like NC's... At lake sonoma i like to use nightcrawlers while i search for perch (stay on the hook better)  once i locate a school i switch to the wigglers (less wasteful, and they seem to attract more bites)  however, you never seem to catch a bass worth catching on the wigglers... whatcha fishin for?

Texas rigged NC, if i'm using bait, for all. When bluegill are present in big numbers, you can tell its them by the way they hit...real short fast raps...then chunk out the nightcrawler.

Red worms are a pain to thread and keep on the hook.  They work good when the fish are real small.

Yeah their little piranha's but fun on ultra lite 2lb test.  I sometimes tip my little "Trout trap" (1/16oz mini tube) with some wiggler, can't get whole worm on the hook its too small, and watch or feel the little wolves tear it up till one large enough takes the hook.

Mini Crawlers 24ct
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I have only ever used night crawlers, and from the description of red wigglers, I think it will stay that way!
