I've enjoyed reading the good reviews about the Mini-X. I'm considering purchasing one or two of them for the wife and I, but would like to demo one first.

Does anyone in or around the Sacramento area have one I could demo?

Best regards,
Al

Hi Al - I just picked-up a Mini-X last week from Sean at GWKC, rigging it now for river fishing.  I live on the AR at Rossmoor in Rancho Cordova.  Be glad to hook-up for a demo. I'm out of town for work this coming week. PM me and we can arrange a time to get together the following week or so, maybe do a AR float or hit one of the local lakes if interested.  :smt006

Take care - John

Al just buy one you will love it. I just got back from my place on the river and It's a buncha steps down to the river I can carry the mini in 1 hand and rod, paddle, net and anchor in the other 1 trip super convenient. Perfect for your type of fishing. If I had demoed one I might not have bought it but now that I am used to it I love it :smt007.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I like that! Seems like my P13 gets heavier each time I load it.

My son bought one from Sean, and he "Loves" it. I can hardly wait until this fall when I can use his on the river for steelhead. I have a X-Factor, so his is very small and easy to get around. Good luck on yours.

I'm not very experienced with kayaks, but my daddy was a boat builder, and every once in awhile I see a hull that speaks to me:  No Freudian slips intended:

http://www.oceankayak.com/kayaks/angler_editions/caper_angler.html

Of those three, the Malibu Mini-X seems the most versatile.

Meanwhile, I took my little Hobie Sport through some small waves last month, with my infamous home made outrigger pontoon rig.  It worked okay, but its slow.

Just get a Mini-X and a wetsuit and enjoy getting wet.  Safely please.

I bought 2 from Cabelas. They offered free shipping to a local depot that was 5 miles from my home. No sales tax, no frt and minimal gas...worked out very nicely for me.

Otherwise, I think the closest dealer is in the bay area or Truckee??

The Sports Exchange in Truckee has Mini X's. Actuallly a couple of fish & dive versions.  The mini x is their most popular yak.  They do demo if you sound interested in pershasing which I was (am) but in 10 days I couldn't get one to demo.  They are very popular for sure..  I want to try it in the wind on Donner & Tahoe before I buy..  I question the wind cause my OK Caper is fair in the wind but the chop makes trolling or jigging a fight..

Still interested in the mini for the little lakes up here but Cabelas has p13's (anglers) for $699 plus tax & I went for it.  The mini is in the near future & the caper will probably go on the market..

again thanks for the awesome info, loving how quickly and everyone responds and how helpful everyone is!  I am heading to San Jose tomorrow, I went to "Outdoor adventures" in larkspur, they wanted wayyy to much and didn't have any fish and dive in stock and wanted to charge me 149 just to have it shipped to their store!! no thanks I told them.  So I am calling boaters world in San Jose tomorrow because they are advertising a min x with apex 1 seat for $635.  I am definitely going to buy a mini-x I am just trying to find the one I want that's not a ridiculous price.

FINALLY GOT MY MINI :smt003!!! I decided not to go with the fish and dive model and just get the regular with the two holders and center hatch, I figure if I really need more space/holders I can add them at a later time.
I will tell you this though,    IF anyone is looking for a min I got mine for $483.00 plus tax WITH A APEX ONE SEAT!~!!!!!

Talk to Adam down at "Boaters World"  hes the man and he'll hook you up!!! Awesome place and great staff and prices.  If you pay 4 bucks in store and get their "member card" you get free shipping from online and for every 300 dollars you accumulate throughout the year you get 12 back I know its not anything special but if your spending money anyway it helps right?

Now on to my next venture:  What fish finder works best for creeks/small lakes??
