While the standard flushmount rod holders are OK for the Salt when trolling for trout they keep the rod tip too high and are not right there when you get hit. I wanted to use my Ram Holder and I didn't want to put any holes in the Kayak, so in between yard duties (WAF) I made this adapter it works really well just a Prototype, I'll firm it up after some on the water testing tomorrow. I put a rubber bushing at the end of this plastic thingy I had floating around just stick it in the flushmount give it a few twists and you are good to go it will not come out.

WOW!!  Your creation looks solid. I think it is a great evolution of the flush mount. What is the "plastic thingy" that is used to make this? Kinda looks like a sprinkler housing. Looking forward to the report.

Ingenuity at its finest.  That is awesome.  Wish I was clever like that.  I too look forward to the report.

Not sure it had another piece on the top that I cut off. I'll get another one and post a picture of it. I'm going to make another.

Nice!
Mike, does your flush mount have a gimbal?
If so, I'd slot the bottom of your adapter to prevent the RAM ball/holder from spinning under load.

Chuck that was my first thought but with a bolt in the middle it would still spin. You can really torque it down and the ram balls slips before it does, plus the gimbals just a plastic strip and I wanted it to fit flush mounts without one. It's just a prototype I still have work to do. Whats sorta funny is when I tried it on my Mini-x it blew the cap off inside the yak like a champagne cork.

Right ON!  That looks like such a simple and easy solution!  Thanks for sharing it!!!  That piece of poly looks perfect for the job too, with a nice little taper to it!  I suppose you could use one diamater for the shaft, and get a larger piece to fit over it, so it slots down nicely to the edge of your flush mount.

Thanks that's cool that was my first thought cut a piece of PVC on the bias so when you tightened it down it would wedge in the tube.

Mick, when you gonna let us know "How" to build that flushmount rod holder? I see the pics, but can't figure out what it is. Please, do tell, do tell :smt003

OK Rory I started out with a Tamper for a Vita Mix Blender cut the top off drilled a hole in the bottom then put a bolt and washer in side and the same on the outside. Then mounted the ram ball on the top had to cut out the sides a little so the nut would fit.

Then I took a door bumper off a truck cut it in half then sized it with a file turning it with a drill. Then put one of those grapper nuts you can buy at Home Cheapo threaded it on and its done. You have to expand it so it fits tight enough so it grabs the side then twist it tight and you are good to go. 1 cation I going to cut notches in the rubber to let air pass when you put it in or it will blow the caps on you flush mounts inside the yak.

Oh I had to shave a little off the top to make it match the base of the ramball.
