The way you were talking before you got in the water I figured your first piece of equipment would be a good UW camera...went straight for the kill stick and now the gun.  So much for photography.   :smt003

Hey -you handed me the "kill stick" remember  :smt045

By the way Fuzz...water buffalo's can be tamed and used for farm work. I know cause I've ridden one in the Phil Islands. So I'd rather be a Hippo over a water buffalo. And I'd gladly demonstrate the power of a 240# hippo....that just woke up because of some Hawaiian dude making too much noice playing with his gecko :smt077

Uh-oh, I better stock up on Chicken Mcnuggets to distract said Hippo.   :smt002

BTW, definitely gonna be back some day this week, so bring it in!  Will call you when I know more.

So, no need to fear the mooch....I'm still as gentle as a sleeping tiger :smt003

How could this be perceived as anything but cuddly?

..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

I won a gun very similar to that. Personally I didn't like it. I didn't like the way it was balanced, or not balanced I should say.
I sold it. Just my personal preference.

with that gun, if it was my own, i would get :

hammerhead open muzzle
2 9/16ths bands
jbl tru glide track for it
a riffe euroshaft with the stinger setup
loaded with 2 wraps of 300lb mono / swivel and bungee.

That gun will be all set for duty, hole hunting and hunting rf in the kelp.

you'd be surprised what a gun like that can be turned into with a few parts. of course you could buy all that in a package as well but making it is part of the fun.

Oddly enough, I talked to Mooch about this last night!    :smt002

That's a great setup & something I use myself; however, there are a few problems with this gun.  The main problem with most mods on Esclapez guns - they have an internal rail for their proprietary inserts on the top of the barrel.  This is an inverse rail that you can slide rail sections in, etc.  Because of this, the modifications are a pain to fit muzzles to it (need to shape the male part like a pacman) and even attaching the rails are difficult because of the gap running down the length of the barrel.

Another problem - if Mooch had to buy those upgrades, it'd cost ~$150 in materials to upgrade his free gun.   :smt005

Kevin and I have modified many guns for ourselves and friends before he started selling producing the evolution spearguns.  By far, Esclapez were the most troublesome to modify.   :smt009

This particular one isn't as bad!  Visited the Mooch at Aquan & picked it up.  Turns out it's an ollld model, even pre-dating the classic Esclapez foam-barreled Merou D'or.  Good thing is, it has no internal rail.   :smt003

I'll check out my parts bin & see if I can pimp it out.   :smt002

That type of gun is a proven killer. the range and accuracy is great. As to the pole spear. You either have to be a good free diver or mainly shoot cab and ling. Rock fish seems to get away pretty easily. I hate poking holes in fish and letting them swim away.
 enjoy.
