Where is everybody planning to fish? And its OK if you don't want to share...just PM me with your super-secret perch spot LOL!
I haven't fished for perch in the Rio Del Mar/Seacliff area but that might be a good place to start. Not really sure. Most of the perch fishing I've done in the past few years has been in Marina and Seaside. Marina beach has been kind to me recently, providing a few big BSP on grubs. So maybe I'll just drive back down here after the check-in...?

There is a good high tide at 11:30am. But the weatherman is predicting stormy weather on Saturday.

Might just have to stick to the more-protected beaches, like Cap, New brighton, Seacliff, etc. As opposed to the crushing surf in Moss Landing or Marina.

Conditions are predicted to be in the "epic proportions" category.....  Much like SCC 1, with 50 kt winds and 25 ft swell scheduled for Saturday Night.

The derby goes on no matter what the weather.  Testing the mettle of these fierce and fearless perch hunters.

We will see everyone at the check-in at 7am at the public meeting room , Santa Cruz Harbor (near Bayside Marine).  We'll remind all anglers, but let me say it here as well:  BE CAREFUL!  Conditions will be rough, do not turn your back on the ocean.  Black diamond surfcasting conditions predicted.

(Yes, we wil have hot coffee at check-in.........)

15 3/4" Barred surf perch... we have seen 15"+ contenders every year.  last year #1 was 14 something, but a guy brought a 15 1/4" in too late for measure.....

The 1st year winner came from Marina Beach with an comparably sized fish coming on bait from Cowell's beach.
