I've been driving myself crazy looking at replacement "fishing cameras" and found this today. :smt003

The discontinued Olympus 770sw was tough, but slow and had shaky video. The newer 790sw had better video but the depth rating dropped to 3meters and is still slow in the lens and shot to shot times.

Looks like Olympus is trying to up it's offering with more megapixels 10.1,faster wide angle lens 28-102mm(35mm equiv.), depth rating of 10meters, crushproof to 100kg., freezeproof to -10c., and has a larger 2.7" lcd. Hmmmm.........

If you're considering Optio, be aware (or is it beware) Pentax's tech support. Sent my camera in two times for a video noise problem with no resolution. If I get into video, I'll do so with a helmet cam.

Can't say it too often.....

Digital camera owners:   Take a Q-TIP, get it wet and then roll it on your pants-leg to make it just moist.

Open the doors to A) the serial port, and B) the battery and mem-card.

Run the Q-TIP over both mating gasket surfaces, of both doors.

When you see how black that Q-TIP gets----you will know, how necessary this is.

Pants-leg...moist?  I dunno about others, but I haven't had an issue with moist pants since I was a little kid.  Well, except for that time on my 21st birthday, but I blame the Jack Daniels for that one... :smt003  Maybe I'm missing something?

FWIW, I have a 770sw and have had no problems with it.  I keep it on a leash in my PFD pocket.  It is a little slow but not too slow.  Considering my last digital was a fuji 2.? mpix it was a giant upgrade for me.  If you can find a good deal on one (since it's discontinued) I would consider it.

If I had one complaint it would be that there is no viewfinder.  I was using it snorkeling in Hawaii last year and it was hard to line up the shot witout a viewfinder.  The LCD, while huge, is useless underwater or in bright sunlight.
