Back in the Phil Islands, we used to fly kites with razor blades on the nose of the kite for cheap thrills :smt002 The object of the game was to cut the line of the enemy kite or make repeated dive bombs on the kite itself till it hit the ground :smt077......pirates of the sky.....ahhh...da good 'ol days :smt003

Hey Joel,
There is a book that came out a couple years ago and got lots of critical acclaim called "Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini (I think they're even making a movie about it).  It takes place in Afghanistan (pre-war, 1970s) and kids basically fly kites with sharp glass encrusted kite strings and the object was to cut the strings of the other kid's kites.  There was also something about chasing the kites once they were cut, hence the title.  Anyway, since you've participated in such games I thought you might enjoy the book or the movie when it comes out.  Oh, there is all sorts of plot and stuff too but I'm sure you can handle it.

Interesting! Thanks Brian!

The advantage of getting "shot down" early is that you get to play the role of "ground fire" or "death from below"....so any kid that lost his kite early in the battle, gets to use his sling shot to shoot down the enemy kites.  :smt002 Kids today don't know what they are missing :smt003

Combat kites!   I've seen gatherings of folks that had those big "Bat wing" kites, the people were flying thier kites each others kites, trying to slice the strings as Mooch mentioned.  I was amazed at how the two control strings of the different kiites never got tangled.
