I seem to be hearing more and more about the serial numbers being cut off...Joe / skyboy bought a T-140 years back and the serial number was also cut off and patched up. Wonder why????

Couldn't they just get a soldering iron and cross out the serial #??

Fixing is difficult, here is a quick thread from another board.  good luck!  Let us know how you do, OK?

I believe that in California a kayak of any size (without a motor) doesn't need to be registered.  Not sure how that goes in other states, but buying anything with the serial number cut out would make me nervous regardless of who I was getting it from.

I bought an inflatable once, came in a big box, as the original owner, all I recieved was a statement of origin from the manufacturer which had the serial number on it and then I was responsible to have it registered as a vessel in calif. The serial number then became the hull number.

So the reason that the serial numbers are cut out just makes me wonder what's up. Could be completely legit, then maybe not.  Anyone out there have any other info for us shoppers?

I feel the same way - why go through all that trouble to cut out the serial number and then sell it? Hmmmmmm....someone please shed some light.

Tightline,
When stores get get a defect and report it to the
manufacturer, most manufacturers have the retailer send back
the numbers only (to save on shipping costs).
It is than up to the retailer how to dispose of the
defective yak. My advise would be to check very
thoroughly for any other repair other than the missing numbers
like cracks in the scupper hole, or thin plastic in spots.
As far as repairs go the plastic weld is always the best
choice if possible. Plastic welders are available at Harbor freight.
For large areas cut a patch to fit and weld in place.
Good Luck,
