What are your kayak fishing goals for 2008?

Mine are:
1.  To learn to fish for bass and catch them consistently.
2.  Set new PB’s in LMB and Rainbows.
3.  Win one of the NCKA 2008 AOTY top individual species awards.
4.  To meet more NCKA brothers and sisters.

In no particular order:

1. Catch a legal ling, rather than that same dang 23-incher that I seem to catch every time.  :smt011
2. Catch my first halibut (which I haven't yet targeted).
3. Catch a salmon, assuming they show up.
4. Find a way to clone myself so that my wife doesn't notice that I'm out fishing, playing paintball or any other similarly fun activity.
You don't quit playing because you get old, you get old because you quit playing...

1. Fish more! Meet more people!

2. Catch a Salmon or sturgeon from a kayak.

3. Finish in the top 20 in AOTY.

1. Make the Islander trip

2. Catch a Halibut from my yak

3. Take my family camping at Bodega Bay, catch crab and boil them right there at the campground

4. See my wife and each of my kids catch fish from a yak
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

1. Kidnap Papa Bill and get him out in the water for some much deserved fishing time :smt002
2. Fish with NCKA'ers that I still have not had the pleasure of sharing time on the water :smt006
3. Organize more kayak fishing/hunting/diving clinics with Aquan....to spread the Gospel of the Kayak Nation :smt001
4. Catch (ocean) salmon - I'd be happy just to catch one keeper when the season opens up. I'd also like to see others catch and experience their first ocean salmon from a kayak. To me, it's almost a spiritual experience catching these magnificent fish :smt007
5. Catch and release a wild steelhead
6. Do a lot more camping and fishing - I really enjoyed the paddle-in camping at Lake Del Valle (Chillin & Fishin at Del Valle). Hope to do more of it in on ther lakes as well and get more NCKA'ers involved.
7. Explore new kayak fishing locations.
8. Make it to the top ten on the AOTY
9. FREE DIVE FREE DIVE FREE DIVE!!!! (not really fishing related but still done from a kayak)

Great answers.   :smt001

Me:  1)  more great adventures with NCKA brethren; 2)  get the kids out on the yaks more and more;  3)  great adventures that bring interesting reports;  4)  salmon from the yak are my focus, and rockfish and lingcod are always highlights as well as crabbing and abbing...;  5)  I want to get a halibut this year.   :smt003  and; 6)  share in more fun and exciting reports of others here.

1) Catch more fish! I hate being out-fished by the kids, but it ain't all that bad.

2) Go to at least one NCKA event.

3) Get at least 2 more yaks cause the kids are getting too big for our tandem.

1)  Attend BAM IV.  To actually meet the people I've talked to on this board.
2)  I really want to catch a sturgeon.  Never have, it just looks extremely cool.
3)  Kayak from Lake Mendocino to the Pacific. (walk around Squaw Rock)

I'm there with Bill... busy busy and another little one on the way at end of May.  I'm just hoping that when the opportunity to fish presents itself, that the fishing is off the hook.

As for fishing goals:

1.  Catch a halibut... it's been too long.
2.  Catch a salmon... it's been too long.
3.  Get the steelhead thing dialed in... this one is new for me.

1.   :smt007 Catch salmon.  This seems to be on a lot of our lists.  Ace (AsaBSpade) kayaks a mile offshore at Fort Bragg to catch them, but that sounds a bit much for my safety tolerances.   Might join a friend who owns a small regular fishing boat to do the salmon thing.
2.  Catch a steelhead when Dave (Pescadore) shows me where and how.
3.  Cruise down the Navarro River with buddies from Dimmick Park to the sea, trap crayfish.
4. Free dive at Van Damme, maybe spear fish.
5. :smt006 Have some NCKA members camp in our yard near Mendocino for some fun weekends; yak fish and dive all day, sit around a big campfire in the eves, devouring our catches, taste test our favorite beers, tell fishing stories, play guitars, and just meet some of the great people in the group in person instead of in "cyberspace".   :camp
6.  Become a "Master Crabber of Big River" and spend lots of time on/in Mendocino Bay, crabbing and fishing.   :smt004 Happy New Year All!   -Matt

Aren't there only 365 days in a year??? Oh, wait...2008 is Leap Year so 366:smt007

My goals:

1. Bring home fish bigger than a hotdog bun
2. Get "dialed in" on trout fishing
3. Catch a halibut
4. Finish in the top 20 in the AOTY
5. Get my daughter on the water with me

...and all this with my NCKA brethren. Gotta love the madness this group brings to the sport of fishing! Thanks for a great year. Let's do it again in 2008!
