Greetings
Here's the dilemma, I just got my first yak :smt055 thanks to Sean at GWKC :smt038. Well when the wife and I go camping I would like to bring it with me. BUT, I won't be able to haul it in the back of my truck when I'm pulling my 30 foot 5th wheel. I do not have a ladder on the back to put it on top, and have been thinking of maybe putting some type of hanger on the side of the trailer. There is a pop out on the drivers side, and an awning on the passenger side (in relationship to the truck) Has anybody heard of such a thing that would let me haul the yak and still keep the wife happy by taking the comforts of home???? And you guys know how important it is to keep the wife happy :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023

Congrats on the new yak and welcome to the madness! In your yak carrying situation, K.I.S.S. If I was you I'd try to keep the yak on the top of your truck w/ some racks. Trying to put it on a trailer will be more of a headache than is expected since there's so many new variables. Tried and true simplicity is the ticket IMO.

No way to stash it inside the 5th wheel just for transport?  Deploying the popout might give you enough room to get it inside just for going to the campsite & coming home.

Interesting dilemma. Can't cartop the yak on the truck because of the 5th wheel, and no ladder or rack on the trailer. Myself, I've seen kayaks carried on the side of a vehicle (there was a sponsered van that had racks all over it here in santa cruz) with custom steel racks, but they just don't look very safe on the side. It looks like it would be too easy to scrape  'em while turning tight somewhere.
Seems to me your choices are either cheap (stash the yak inside the trailer) or pricey (get a ladder & rack for the trailer). Hanging the yak off the side seems like it would also be a CHP magnet, even if it was safely tied on.

Have not tried to put yak inside trailer with pop-out extended yet :smt012. I don't think it will work with the yak being 14'6" (It's a X-factor) Have been searching the internet and found a couple of ideas to put in a headache rack and than a front mounted reciver and put in an "L" shaped pole extending up to form a "T" to place the yak up front. It will be reaching out in front a LOOOOOG ways tho. I have found those front mounted boat loaders, might work, but don't need the motor to pull up boat. Still looking around, thanks for some ideas. NOTE: don't want to do something that the CHP would have a field day with :smt072

I think the front loader is going to be your answer. We had a 15' klamath on out front loader when we had a 5th wheel. No problems except loading a 210 lbs boat. Your yaks are light in comparison to a klamath..
welcome to the madness.

I thnk a rooftop rack would work the best, unless that gets in the way of the 5th wheeL?

My folks bought 2 Hobie's this summer and they haul them on a Yakima rack on the cab. It is an extended cab truck and the Hobie's are only 9'6" long, but I think your best bet will be some type of cab/cabover rack.

Whatever you get, just make sure to "measure" where the trailer will be when making a tight turn. If you only have one yak and center it down the middle of the truck you'd be surprised how far back it can go and still not be in the way of the trailer turning radius.
