I bought a 12 volt battery for my fishfinder which I figured I would also use when I got around to installing a live bait well. As it happens I live in the desert and by the time Im ready for my next trip, Ive already bought the well and its on its way. I have a small question and that is does anybody have any good ideas for installing the battery safely (dry) in my hull. I have thought of getting a tupperware box and gluing it using some goop and then running the wiring through the lid. I'm sure somone is selling a piece of equipment expressly for that purpose but I am a cheap bastard, and poor.

I use a little plastic box with a hole drilled in it, seems to work well. You are not going to be getting a lot of water in hull (hopefully) so I don't worry so much about being totally waterproof. Some people us a dry bag. Allan uses a dry bag on his triple that I borrowed and it worked well.

There are also these tuperware containers with rubber gaskets that have been used by people. There are cheap and can be found at Target.

Thank you all for of your input. The tupperware was my first thought. To tell you the truthI was kind of embarrased of thinking of it, like it wasn't very sophisticated engineering and all, however I can see that others are thinking the same way, so I feel better.

I'm a believer of the roll-up dry bag - when I flipped my kayak at Linda Mar, water went in my hatch and the bag kept my battery dry.

I would think that the tupperware cover would pop open if it was tossed around inside the hull with a batttery inside....I guess it would depend on the type of tupperware you are using...some lids secure better than others....time for a myth buster  :smt002

Scwafish / Sean sells the dry bags too........
