As my father-in-law says, grab a piece of paper, number it 1-100 and label it sheet A.

Where to start:

Wheeleez Kayak Cart
Abu Garcia Revo Inshore Baitcasting Reel
Okuma Baidarka Rod
Shimano Symetre Spinning Reel
Or
Gift Certificates to FW or Mel Cotton's so I can get EXACTLY what I want!

to be continued ...

All I want is a kayak that paddle like a Tarpon 160, must have a center hatch that I can store my rods for launch and landing, and weight under 40 pounds.

#1 would be the financial ability to quit my job and fish full time, but I'll settle for a VHF radio, or a wet suit and dry top.  :smt003

I'm with Usagi on that, but I'm getting a wetsuit.   Mooch recommended a good brand of wetsuit but he's busy right now with his new job selling kayaks, so I'll ask him about it again later.

It's good to hear folks are buying radios.  I just got one.  My kayak fishing buddies usually carry cell phones also, so we have the best of both worlds.  Nearest Coast Guard here is Noyo.  It's really sad how many lives are lost up here on the Mendo Coast due to careless disregard for the rocks and rapidly changing ocean.  I have a some friends here in State Parks Maintenance.   Part of his job sometimes involves recovering bodies out of Mendo Bay.   Not funny.  To me the safety aspect is all part of the fun.   Wear a comfortable helmet, too.   End of lecture from a cautious newbie to the sport.  :smt002

I'm curious to see what he recommends - any of the veterans for that matter.  I did as much research as I could and ended up getting one from REI, an NRS Ultra John 3mm Wetsuit.  Hoping it will be sufficient!  Being an REI member, every so often you get a 20% off coupon and I applied mine towards the wetsuit.

I have the NRS 3mm suit.  Works fine for the waters off Monterey, and has lasted about a year now with no visible wear.

and, a joke to keep this post legit:

A few members of a local scuba club went diving off the
Monterey coast, amongst them was Jim and Wilma, a husband
and wife who always dived together. On the last dive they got
separated, Jim surfaced ok, but his wife was nowhere to be
seen. They initiated a search but after a long day and night, it
was called off and Jim went back home alone and
heartbroken.

The next day the club Diving Officer knocked on Jim's front
door and said "I’m really sorry Jim, but I’ve got some bad
news, some good news and some very good news",

Fearing the worst Jim said "Give it to me straight, what’s the
bad news?"

"Well we’ve found your wife’s body" came the solemn reply,

"Oh my God" wept Jim…… after a while he said "well, what’s
the good news?"

The dive officer excitedly said "You wouldn’t believe it, when
we brought her up, we got 2 large crabs and 3 huge
lobsters!!!"

Somewhat stunned, Jim asked "what’s the very good new then?"

The dive officer said "Well, we’re going to bring her up again
tomorrow morning!"
