Freddie and I had Monday off, so we drove 3 hours down to Big Sur for what's likely our last rockfish trip of the season which closes at the end of November for areas south of Pigeon Point.  We were hoping for some rockfish or ling upgrades, but no go.  I managed to catch another 20" red which only ties what I already have on the board.

The conditions were sweet -- almost no swell or wind, and overcast but not cold.  All of the areas we originally wanted to fish like Mill Creek, Willow Creek, and Pacific Valley were all closed due to fire danger.  Lucky for us, Limekiln was still open.  The kelp beds were as thick as I've ever seen them which made fishing very tough with snags on nearly every drop.  Surprisingly, we didn't catch any legal lings.  We caught a bunch of reds and released a whole lot of blues, blacks, olives, and gophers.

By the way, we had a run in with Ranger Garcia.  For those who don't know him.  He's been harassing us at Limekiln ever since we started fishing there years ago.  He tried to tell us that rockfish season was already closed, so I corrected him and told him that it's only closed for areas above Pigeon Point.  He ought to be embarrassed for being ignorant to the rules he's supposed to uphold.

Yup, that's a fact.  That dude can catch reds in place where they're rare.  He's got the technique dialed in... and I've been watching and learning from him.  :smt003

Chuck - you should have played along and let him write you a ticket.....then take him to court and make him look like the stupid ass that he is...in front of the judge :smt002 Then maybe we can finally get rid of him for good  :kick

SOOOO jealous!!!

Good job on the rockies! Too bad Gar-thia is back. I like Mooch's idea..."Ya, go ahead and call the Warden. And call the police. And call the Governator." That way, they can ALL see what a dumbass he is!

Thanks for the report guys,
PK

Nice Job Chuck!!!  That stringer looks sweet.

BTW, how was the surf landing?  :smt003

Fred mentioned something about a yard sale, which may explain the seaweed dangling from your rod.

This guy is clearly abusing the good name  :smt003

File a complaint, incompetence is a legitimate concern and far worse than just being an a-hole, 2nd time the dude doesn't know the regs.  He thought the ling min size was still 30" last time I was there.
