After Kiel made some mouth watering garlic fried rice and cooked some delicious longaniza (together with our leftovers from Saturday night's meatfest) for breakfast....we SLOWLY made our way to the lake....

Another beautiful no-wind-sunny-day-with no motor boats and jetskis on the lake  :smt007 Got my first striper by the Bouy line right across the dam on a slowtrolled minnow. The second one came out of a boil near cappie cove - caught it with a discontinued risto rapala.

Went looking for SMB & LMB......made a cast with a risto rap right next to a stump sitting on a rocky shoreline and "HULI KA!"...thought it was LMB at first but when it started doing acrobatics all over the place, I knew it was a descent SMB  :smt007 Got it on board, measured, photoed and released = 18 incher  :headbang: Just what I was looking for  :smt045

THanks Scott! You gotta hit this lake RIGHT NOW!!! It's like fishing in a private lake  :smt002 Just make sure you bring your rolleez wheels for easier transport.

Compa, nope. Kiel actually used his propane stove to cook the rice  :smt045

Found a small cove - 4 to 6 feet at the most with baitfish here and there. Kept the yak on the middle of the cove and began fan casting the mighty risto rap and started catching about a dozen SMB and LMB. Most were small but the SMB were outfighting  :smt062  the bigger LMB. Gotta love the smallies for that  :smt007

Like I said before = NOW is the time :smt002 Can't get any better conditions right now  :smt002 Just love the fact that we (kayakers) got the lake to ourselves.

The funny thing is that we saw a bunch of locals hanging out on top of the parking lot looking like this:

Thanks! Here's a close up pic of the lure.....if any of you ever find one of these = BUY IT  :smt045

I guess the reason why I generally use crankbaits is that because it's one of those "no-brainer" lures (that's what my buddy Edsel says :smt003) You simply cast and and retrieve...you don't really need to impart any kind action to the lure. (I'm sure the "fly-heavers" on this site are loving me right now :smt003) But the fact is that it's my very own "confidence lure"  ("go to") Although it still requires know how as to where and when to use the lure (you won't see me casting this lure in open water - unless the fish are boiling)

I'm really more impressed with guys like Terry, OB Juan, Adam, Edsel,Compa, Gordon and the other Ken with their patience and consistency with catching bass on finesse baits. I will be taking some "classes" with Terry at Clear Lake and Compa at Lexington soon  :smt002 Looking forward to that  :smt045

Did Dan (Mahi Mahi) ever find out why they put up the concrete barriers? Normally done at this time of the year, or to keep the 4x4's from churning up the beach?

Clear Lake is wide open for an AOTY upgrade now Joel. If I were you that's where I'd be headed!   :smt007
