Nimbus ( Lake Natoma ) is a SUCKY fishery IMO. Better luck at Folsom.

I used trout troll at Nimbus all of the time as a kid and we would slaughter them in the fall in front of the dam and along the north shore.  We quit going there when boats got the boot, and that was a long time ago.

Mike, if the weather is right and you want to make a 2.5 hour drive, I'd be glad to take you out to try for some REAL trout like these...

We don't fish Nimbus that much, but I know folks catch trout there using Powerbait.  Kayaks are allowed...call the Aquatic Center first to make sure there isn't a rowing event going on.  I'm also assuming that you are talking about the lake and not the basin where folks are trying to catch phantom salmon this year.

Folsom is absolutely heaven for yakkers and 'noers right now.   The lakewide speed limit is 5 MPH so you will not have to deal with jetskiers, waterskiers, or nutso tournament bass fisherman.  The lake is very low so you may have a long trek to launch.  I don't know about trout but I know the bass bite is improving at Folsom.  Even if you don't catch fish, it's a great time to explore the lake structure and enjoy the scenery.

Thanks for the feedback, I was wondering if anyone would remember me. Tell your daughter I said hi back. I dont think I will be able to make a 2.5 hr drive but man it is tempting! I might just put in at sunrise and fish the American down to Rossmore. Mike

Better Check the regs I think that section is closed until Jan. 1. It's open below Ancil Hoffman Park.

Yup... Mickfish is right. The river is off limits from the Hazel Ave. bridge to the powerlines at Ancil Hoffman Park. Below that is okay... I haven't been able to get out there at all so far. But, things look really bleek.

Sean-

You caught that fish in Nimbus??? I haven't seen anything taken out of that lake since I've been in Folsom. Must be one of the "good ol' days" type of things. Sweet looking trout though.

No those are all from the Russian...but we used to get decent trout out of Nimbus as a kid.  I almost had the state record for bluegill as a kid from Nimbus...a little over 2 pounds and 2 ounces.  The record at the time was a few ounces heavier if I remember right.  I just remember almost crapping myself when I saw how big the 2-2 bluegill was!!! it was HUGE for a gill.

I guess that lake has some BIG fish in it. I think that the state record rainbow came out of Nimbus. I've just never seen anybody take anything out of that lake. Hmmm... maybe I should give it a try just to say I gave it a try...
