Upgrading the drain pipe, Lexington will be between 8% - 2% capacity in the summer. Better fish it this winter.

The creepy thing is that there are 2 sunken towns at the bottom of Lexington, freaky....

Hmmm...I wonder if they'll let me play paintball in the rotten, decaying buildings? :toothy10:

I read the article this morning in the Merc.  Very interesting!

Although, for the sake of the fish, I was hoping to read that it would be off limits to fisherman.  Talk about shooting fish in a barrel.

Same thing with Lake Jocassee in South Carolina. Beautiful crystal clear lake full of trout. Over a hundred feet below the surface, the town is still there. A friend of mine would go scuba diving in the town!

Now that would be a little freaky.  I bet he saw some pretty cool stuff.

Same thing at Lake Berryessa. There is a town underwater. I saw it during the drought in the early 90s. Pretty cool.

That was Monticello where Berryessa is now.  I think it was all bulldozed, because all the rest of the bottom was cleared of trees, etc. in the early 50's.

Apparently, not all of Monticello was bulldozed. Because I explored the ruins over by the vineyards area when it was exposed. Complete foundations of buildings were still present. We also found a complete swimming pool that was about half olympic size and approx 10 feet deep. Amazingly enough, the pool itself hadn't filled with silt...and still held water even though it was about 5 feet above the water line (and about 200 yards from the water's edge: it was very flat there). The pool even had a bunch of weeds growing in it and a few fish!
My parents still have a bunch of bricks+stuff we scavenged from the site. They were Killarny bricks if I remember correctly.

There's also a big bridge underwater at Berreyessa. Albiet, on the complete other side of the lake, up in Capel Cove. Wow, that was a long time ago...maybe it wasn't Capel Cove. But I think that's where it was. When it was exposed, I remember thinking that it must be a really good place to fish when the water is up.

Another cool thing at Berryessa are the freshwater oysters. There are a lot of them, and some do yield pearls...or so I was told. Never found a pearl-bearing oyster there.

Lexington, as of this morning, is low.  It's been much, much lower though in the past.  It is really muddy right now also. It will be nice when the work on the dam is complete and the lake can return to normal.
