My son Matthew and I hit Lake Amador Friday, we where on the water at 7am started off trolling flies black, white, green wooly buggers off one side of the yak and the other we trolled broken back rapala. About an hour and a half latter my son gets one on the broken back (black and white I think it was a J5 or smaller) that was the only one for about an hour or so, we started to notices the small diving birds eating small minnows about 1-1/2” long so I tide on the smallest minnow diver I had witch was a Yo-zuri 2” silver Pin minnow, I manage 2 fish on that before loosing it  :smt013.  The pic of all the lures is what I tried throughout the day. Most of my sons fish came off a Daiwa Dr. minnow F witch is the pic of the lure by its self.  My son manage to boat 5 and lost 3, my self I boated 2 and lost 2 and we where off the water at 4pm. All in all we had a great day on the water :smt004, I wish I could tell you all that all the fish came off one special lure but I can not . The bank fisherman where doing good with power bait and bobbers now weight and some where casting kasmasters and going OK with that the water was lower than I have aver seen as you can see in the pics.

Hi Pat. I finally get to see you and Matthew side by side, so no more excuse for mislabeling any pictures. I would say that your catch-loss ratio  adds up to a good day and especially more so if it looked to be as nice a day as it was here in Fremont today. Last time I fished Lake Amador was in the springtime, and I froze my behind off until about 11 am.

Thanks for the report. There is something very satifying when your son out fishes you, which my son does all the time. Sorry mendo didn't work out. Hope the water heater wasn't as bad as the last time I put one in.

Fishing with my son is definitely good time the only problem is he usually will out fish me  :smt012, but that’s OK with me it’s the time spent together that counts  :smt003.

Dan that’s the same lure I use in lake Del Valle.

Pat....next time, rub some Vick's vapor rub on you son's line spool  :smt077

Seriously though, I'm jealous of your son. My dad passed away (cancer) when I was 11 years old. He too was an outdoorsman but unfortunately we did not to get to bond as much as we wanted to.

Keep up the Father and Son fishing expeditions!! I love reading about stuff like this  :smt023

Will do, I also lost my father to cancer but was fortunate to have 35 years with him.

Vick's rub...... I might give that a try :smt045
