Hello,
this is my first fishing report. Met Fish Flogger @ the wharf this morning, unfortunately the public launch is closed. so have launch @ the harbor. paddle pass the light house north of the wharf.  met up with Fish Flogger and the guy with Hobie Mirage Outback. sorry Hobie guy, forgot your name. fished a couple hour with no luck. around 10 I notice that we drifted way north of the light house. I decide to head back. on the way back I caught a few RF, most were small, lest that a foot.  only kept 3 that was biggger. was going try fising in the kelp but wind p/u and I was drifting too fast always snagging the kelp. around 1pm,decided to head back. Its dead calm when I paddle but when I get back past the wharf, the water was really choppy. hope the fish flogger and the other have better luck.

John, it is really easy to not remember names (I am Keith Munger / Hobie Mirage Guy).  Yes, you are right, we drifted way further north than any of us were paying attention to.  When we looked up, you were definitely heading towards the Harbor (this was around the time that the three of us got separated by perhaps 100 yds apiece).  We ended up having an excellent day .  I kept 4 nice "Keepers" and Deva got at least 5 plus a Shark that got away.  I lost 4 "Total Tackle Rigs" to either something that bit through my line or that took me into the rocks.  The water was so incredibly "Fishy" that we had a hard time heading in without finding another "Drop Point".  You are right about the wind.  We found ourselves much further North than either of us had been before even even though we stopped paddling at the yellow buoy just off Lighthouse Point before the drift.  It was a long paddle through the chop to get back but it was worth it.  "Hope to see you again out there".

Had an awesome time fishing with you guys today. Sorry we lost you so early JLE. We definitely got caught up in the action. Caught lots of blacks and a few keeper vermilion. Got a baby white sea bass around 10" and the shark that broke me off right at the boat. Ended the day with 2 blacks, 1 copper, and 2 chunky vermilions that I kept. My brand new Shimano Corvalus reel died on it's maiden voyage. Ya know...the one that I got for the killer deal at West Marine? Pretty disappointed. I'll be going to West Marine to talk with Galen tomorrow.  I'm sure he'll make things right.

FF:  Gosh i hope that is a fluke, I'd be bummed to reccomend a lousy reel!  Galen will take care of you Im sure...question is do you want to take a chane with the same reel?

what kind of shark?

sounds like you guys found the spot, allright.

i wen tout Saturday in front of the harbor right to our "ling cod" spot, it was super slow.  i think youguys called it right, hitting santa cruz reef. how far up did ou go?  NB's?

It's all good Allen. Definitely not on you. I'm confident that Galen will do good. And if it dies again I'll just keep returning it till I either get one that works or my warranty expires.

Thresher shark.

Aaahhh, the underling spot ;) I thought about heading that direction  but decided against it for some reason. Guess my intuition finally worked for in my favor.

Oh and btw it was my first time out with the new fish finder. I was very happy with it's performance. Makes such a huge difference. I can't believe I even last five outings with the new yak without one. :smt007

I guess I headed back too early, missed the big ones.. It does'nt really seem like long time as we drifted. once I look back I could barely see the light house. This is the first time I been that far out. I was a litttle worried about getting back. I not too confident on my inflatable. its to bulky and hard to paddle. I think I will save up for one of the Hobie with mirage drive. I think its great, you can paddle and when you arms get tired,  you could peddle or vice versa.

Hey Joel, are you reading this? :smt002

I once had problems with a Corvalus I bought at Mel Cottons.  That one was a skunky reel, but I ended up buying two more b/c I liked the price, and the latter ones did me well.  One thing I noticed on all three Corvalus that I've owned is that the sideplate screws kept coming undone.

Hey guys, don't you know there's no rock fish in Santa Cruz?
At least that's what Mooch tells me....

The times I've seen him out he doesn't go out too far. As long as the puncture hole wasn't too big he could do an emergency landing at It's beach or maybe Cowells. I'd have to agree though. You are a brave man John. You wouldn't catch me out there in an inflatable anything unless it was a kodiak.

I actually used to fish Capitola a lot when I lived in Cali and Mooch used to give me a hard time because he always said that there's no fish in SC. So not a stab @ SC.

I really miss the Capitola kelp, it's a nice place to relax and fish. :fish
