Headed out to Sherman Island to look for striper's with Steve ( Shootswell ). Got in the water about 9:30 am after getting some fresh dead shad for bait thought we might bait fish a bit. We had a little wind and a out going tide to start with. At the opening from the lake to the river I had marked some fish so I dropped a shad there for about a half hour with no results. Got boring real quick. I like to cast a lipless crankbait thats my goto bait for striper's in the delta. So I told Steve where I was heading to and started paddling to this spot on the riverside of Sherman. On my second cast I got slammed It was a striper and it gave me a good battle but Steve had the big net and mine is under hood on the kayak. I did manage to get it in and measured 34in and 14lbs on my boga grip. After that the tide shifted I headed back with the tide to were we started. I ended up with 8 squawfish 3 striper's and 2 largemouth which the largest bass was 20in. I really need to get a new camera so I can get on the water pictures. The bass would have bettered my entry in the aoty. Here are some photos after I got home with a picture of my goto bait that caught all the fish for that day.

Nice fish!  That one had to put up a good fight.  How was the boat traffic out there man?  Haven't hit this area yet, soon though.  The wind should become less of a factor here pretty soon.  What kind of structure do you look for in such a wide open area?  Was there alot of debris?

Thanks,
Kevin

Wow! That's what I call a good day on the water. You need a wide-angle camera lens to capture that hog! Did Steve fare as well?

Xsquid the boat traffic was not to bad. A lot of people were anchored up bait fishing. If you go hit the river side tulle's and look for cuts in the tallies and cast right on the edge let your bait hit the bottom and crank at a medium speed thats what work for me. Good luck. I will probally be there next Friday also.

Yes it is the same. I replaced the hooks with Owner stinger trebles #6 in the rear and #4 up front.
Much better hooks.
