I am sorry that I thought I posted a reply saying I will be late but didn’t go through. I saw you launch off beach when we got there. We basically just fish around the pier. A few squids, a few Rocks, and a keeper halibut! Need to go to a golf tee time now. Report and picture will follow soon.

Squidding was slow, tons of them on fish finder but they don’t bother touching our jigs. After two hours we only got a few so I decided to trying fishing at the east side of wharf.
Got a couple of brown rocks with hi-low but finding rocks among sands was tricky. Thinking there might also be lingcod, I changed to plastic squid on 2oz jig head bouncing the bottom. Hooked up in 5 minutes with heavy weight, I thought it worked as planned but found out surprisingly it was a good size halibut! Caught at 36’ deep in front of the beach on east side of old wharf. Coming in the pier was a work out, I am glad we didn’t stay too late or too far. An awesome day with amazing weather!

Congrats on a keeper and hoping I can be out there when the squid is thick with my son too.

wow - that's a great looking Halibut!
I went out in the Carmel area. I got a nice Ling, Vermillion and Olive, and a variety of normal / mediocre grade rock fish. There was only other kayaker out with me. He had a slow day, only catching one small rock fish, until.... he landed a White Sea Bass! He said it was 30" plus.
Hope everyone is getting some this weekend!
Best,
Stewart

No worries! It was nice meeting you and your son today.
My first time fishing in Monterey,  went out and around the red can looking for some squid with no luck.  Really slow start.  On my way out stopped by the kelp bed and was able to catch 7 good sized rockfish.  Overall great day, conditions were great. Maybe we can go out together some day in the future.
